OBJECTIVE

Global Down Syndrome Foundation (GLOBAL) is looking for a smart, experienced, collaborative, and highly-organized professional who enjoys writing every day and using the written word to help drive both awareness and fundraising for a cause. The ideal candidate is interested in, and adept at, analytics and data that support the success of communications.

The PR Communications Senior Coordinator will assist the President & CEO to create numerous internal and external communications using a wide array of modalities to present and promote GLOBAL’s important work supporting people with Down syndrome. Responsibilities include daily updates to the GLOBAL website, organization and implementation of the annual press plan, and writing press releases and media alerts.

By providing PR and communications support, this position will allow GLOBAL’s press relations and communications to run smoothly and successfully. It will ensure increased audience, affiliate, and constituent exposure to GLOBAL’s accomplishments, growth in revenue and volunteer support, and increased media impressions.

 BACKGROUND

Global Down Syndrome Foundation (GLOBAL) is a fast-growing, strategic, innovative and ambitious public not for profit 501(c)3 with the mission of significantly improving the lives of people with Down syndrome through Research, Medical Care, Education & Advocacy.  GLOBAL provides critical funding, outreach and lobbying in support of our four “Affiliates”:

  • Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome (Crnic Institute)
  • Rocky Mountain Alzheimer’s Disease Center (RMADC)
  • Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome (Sie Center)
  • the adult Down syndrome clinic collaborative

GLOBAL’s key areas of work are:

  • Campaign and Major Gifts Fundraising
  • Events Management and Annual Fundraising
  • Government Advocacy
  • Public Relations, Marketing & Communications
  • Community Outreach including GLOBAL’s membership program, health and wellness programs and special projects.

GLOBAL’s primary activity is in Colorado and the DC-area, although GLOBAL has members from over 40 states and two countries and supporters around the world.

 JOB DESCRIPTION

The PR & Communications Senior Coordinator is a challenging, full-time position that reports directly into the President & CEO and is matrixed into GLOBAL’s Senior PR Consultant.

The primary responsibility of this position is to write copy for GLOBAL’s PR initiatives, two websites, e-newsletters, e-blasts, campaigns, and to ensure audience and constituent goals are met that are tracked to increased engagement and revenue.

The PR & Communications Senior Coordinator works collaboratively with our social media specialist on a daily basis and other assigned staff periodically.  This position will also leverage GLOBAL’s relationships with our Affiliates, local and national Down syndrome organizations, sports partners, and outside communication firms to amplify GLOBAL’s messaging and reach.

This position is responsible for the day-to-day management of (1) Communications on behalf of the President & CEO, (2) Writing, copywriting, copy editing and proofing for GLOBAL’s PR, website, e-blasts, campaigns, and other marketing materials, (3) the weekly and monthly methodical measurement of communication results with data, and (4) Build resource & administrative support.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to the work listed below.

  1. Communications for the President & CEO. This position will assist to:
  • Organize and update key information for PPT slides, press releases, fact sheets and other marketing materials
  • Create and send meaningful, timely communications to various boards, committees, affiliates and partners
  • Organize (a) regular strategy and development meetings with our Affiliates, (b) press meetings and pitches each quarter, and (c) weekly or biweekly meetings with the staff to review and integrate key messaging and consistency of messaging
  • Organize existing and secure new prominent speaking engagements that align with GLOBAL’s busy calendar and strategic goals
  • Aggregate key financial and milestone data and other presentation materials for board of director meetings and keynote speaking engagements
  • Market Research associated with important new and existing initiatives
  1. Writing, Copywriting, Copy Editing and Proofing. This position will assist to:
  • Develop and produce high-quality, informative, and engaging press releases, press kits and related materials
  • Write, copy write, copy edit and proofread for GLOBAL’s digital communications, website, and other marketing materials
  • Create articles, reports, and research information
  • Work with media outlets, GLOBAL’s sports partners, and other key collaborators to publish timely company information, such as press releases, brochures, and other materials
  1. Methodical measurement of communication results with data. This position will assist to:
  • Develop weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual media activity reports and work with the data group to create appropriate data dashboards
  • Manage analytical tools and resources associated with measuring the success of GLOBAL’s PR and communication plan (e.g. CISION, Google Ads, Open Rates and Unsubscribe Reports) and present such data in an actionable, useful manner to key internal stakeholders
  1. Build Resource & Administrative Support. This position will:
  • Assist to organize and catalog photos, videos, and content to drive efficiency associated with PR and communication work
  • Assist to organize PR and communication constituents in GLOBAL’s database

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of three years’ of experience in communications, marketing, or PR
  • Experience copywriting for digital communications, websites and marketing
  • Experience creating targeted content and using analytics and data to report on measurable ROI, growth and problem areas (e.g. unsubscribes)
  • Experience with PR/Media relations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – strong research, writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing skills are essential, including the ability to present concepts verbally
  • Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills resulting in accurate copy and on-time delivery of deadlines
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends and best practices in traditional and digital/social media
  • Highly developed computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and other design and presentation software systems
  • Excellent work ethic

 STAFF & REPORTING STRUCTURE

Reports to the President & CEO and matrixed into the GLOBAL Senior PR Consultant.

 COMPENSATION

This is an exempt position, requiring flexibility in order to meet deadlines and attend GLOBAL events. Salary is commensurate to experience.

 HOURS

Must work the hours necessary to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position, generally Mondays through Fridays from 9:00am-6:00pm. Position may also require evening and/or weekend work on occasion.
