Philanthropy Relations Officer

Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a Philanthropy Relations Officer within the Educational Foundation. This position serves within the Office of Institutional Advancement and serves the Foundation in engaging, cultivating, and stewarding donors and internal and external stakeholders. Reporting to and under the direction of the Coordinator of Philanthropy, the Officer will support and execute fundraising and development strategies that may include the following: annual campaign activities and active campaign solicitations, scholarship establishment and management, fundraising events, foundation grants development and management (as applicable, and in collaboration with the Grants Office), community and public relations, and alumni relations. This position is restricted as it is funded by the Virginia Western Educational Foundation. Funding has been committed for 2 years from the hire date and will be reviewed for continued funding at that time.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in business, management, communications, fundraising, or related area or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training. Demonstrated fundraising/sales and/or non-profit experience, with documented campaign success. Experience and proficiency in planning and executing special events. Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, PowerPoint with the ability to complete professional correspondence. As an integral part of the Foundation, effectively communicates with college peers, donors, community members and area businesses. Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work independently and with accuracy, while balancing a multitude of tasks. Knowledge of fundraising principles and procedures. Organized, detail oriented, and comfortable executing campaign and fundraising communications/strategy. This position may be asked to work evening or weekend hours; travel to meetings and events may also be required.

Desired Qualifications: Experience using customer relations management systems, presentation and website management software preferred.
