Position Summary: The Philanthropic Partnerships Manager will join the Community Foundation of Utah (CFU) at an exciting time in our organizational lifestyle. Over the past three years, CFU has experienced rapid growth, both in organizational size as well as our ability to catalyze Utah’s philanthropic ecosystem to create even greater impact. Since 2020, CFU has deployed over $200 million in grants to over 500 nonprofit organizations, and now stewards over $210 million in philanthropic assets. Additionally, CFU has made significant strides in facilitating collective giving opportunities, impact investing and general ecosystem building.

The Philanthropic Partnerships Manager serves a critical role in leading CFU’s philanthropic consultancy practice and advising donors on structuring, growing and deploying philanthropic assets in meaningful and impactful ways. This role not only involves developing trusting partnerships with donors, but also further developing and refining g robust advising offerings and maintaining a best-in-class consultancy. Additionally, the Philanthropic Partnerships Manager is responsible for cultivating new funds and assets for CFU to further organizational growth and CFU’s ability to positively impact Utah’s philanthropic sector.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Philanthropic Advising (35%)

    • In partnership with organizational leadership, manage the continued development and implementation of CFU’s philanthropic advising offerings, including individual and family facilitations, corporate engagement, formal presentations, assessments and reports
    • In partnership with organizational leadership, create and implement strategies to further engage CFU as a community resource, partner, and hub for the social sector
  • Develop and refine donor giving portfolios to maximize in depth understanding of NPO partners; build database and service delivery model for strategic giving
    • Conduct market research and engage relevant stakeholders to ensure CFU’s philanthropic advising services are accessible, engaging with community leaders and organizations to increase understanding of community needs and organizational networks 
    • Manage the grantmaking and administration of CFU’s nonprofit endowment funds 
  • Work closely with CFU’s marketing team to communicate the value of CFU’s philanthropic advising work, including webpages and general website integration, presentation decks, report templates and physical collateral 
  • Other philanthropic advising duties as assigned  

 

Business and Community Development (35%)

  • Cultivate relationships within Utah’s donor community and increase awareness of CFU’s value and services
  • Work with organizational leadership on the creation and execution of business development strategy to grow CFU assets and grantmaking capacity, specifically targeting four key activities:
    • Identifying donor advised fund prospects, cultivating relationships with donors and wealth advisors and converting prospects to fundholders
    • Engaging current and prospective CFU donors on planned giving opportunities to and through CFU
    • Identifying corporate advised fund prospects and the CFU advisory services needed to develop compelling value proposition for these funds 
    • Identifying and managing a development campaign to grow donor engagement and contributions
  • Work with organizational leadership to engage broader potential of our Board of Directors and their networks 
  • Other business development and administrative responsibilities as assigned 

 

Strategic Initiatives (20%)

  • Work closely with CFU’s organizational leadership to refine long-term  strategy for CFU’s Utah Grantmakers Alliance; developing content and delivery for convenings 
  • Work closely with CFU’s management team to develop and implement content for CFU’s Give for Good Collaborative and support with recruitment of next-gen participants
  • Develop community relationships and strategic insights to identify and structure new community impact funds 
  • Other strategic initiatives as assigned 

 

Other Responsibilities (10%)

  • Support Philanthropic Services team in all aspects of grantmaking, including grants facilitation, administration and resource development
  • Facilitate cross-department communication and learning opportunities 
  • Special projects as assigned

 

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years’ work experience in philanthropy, business development, social impact, wealth advising, or related field 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, and the ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds 
  • Resourceful self-starter with ability to create clarity within ambiguous environment  
  • Willingness to experiment, take risks and think boldly
  • Visionary thinker with the ability to execute at the tactical level 
  • A desire to learn and grow with a “can do” attitude and desire to broaden skill set and knowledge base
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft programs and high level of computer literacy
  • Willingness to work some evenings 
  • Knowledge of community foundations and philanthropic practice a plus
  • Knowledge of Salesforce a plus
  • Business development experience a plus
