Description

Power of Two is a nonprofit organization that brings the science of attachment directly to families to build resilience and strengthen communities. We, at Power of Two coach and support parents and other caregivers in providing responsive and sensitive caregiving to help children thrive cognitively, physically and emotionally. Our goal, over the next couple of years, is to continue to scale our home-based parent-coaching program throughout New York City and partner with caregivers to unleash their innate ability to parent sensitively and promote a healthy and happy trajectory for their children. We are currently expanding citywide and are seeking candidates to serve as Parent Coaches directly providing our programming to families and their children.

Reporting to the ABC Clinical Supervisor, Parent Coaches will partner with families to help them build specific behaviors that have been proven by research to lead to strong attachment and self-regulation in children: nurturance, following the infant’s lead, and avoiding frightening behavior. The Parent Coach provides positive, in-the-moment feedback, helping the caregiver develop new patterns of parenting. By providing the service in the home, an environment that best approximates parents’ typical living conditions, the new skills developed by the parent are more easily generalized. The Parent Coach would receive intensive training from the developers of the evidence-based model as well as ongoing support and training from the program team at Power of Two.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and facilitating home visits with caregivers of children six months to 24 months;
  • Must be able to balance between commuting and conducting in-home visits across several different boroughs and administrative/data entry in the office.
  • Commute from each family’s home via public transportation.
  • Providing ''in-the-moment'' feedback about the parent's or caregiver’s interactions with his or her child(ren);
  • Enhancing the parent's understanding of responsive parenting and supporting the parent in practicing the target behaviors;
  • Recording weekly sessions and providing video feedback to highlight parents' or caregivers’ strengths, and celebrate changes in behaviors;
  • Entering weekly session visits in an accurate and timely manner via Efforts To Outcomes (ETO) and other software.
  • Participating in weekly supervision with their ABC supervisors to receive clinical support in implementing the evidence-based intervention;
  • Graduating families within 10-weeks and maintaining a caseload of approximately 13 families.
  • Practicing cultural sensitivity and competence while working with families of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Attends and participates in all appropriate Power of Two team meetings, work groups, etc., as directed.
