Description

The Reiss Center on Law and Security (RCLS) and NYU Center for Cybersecurity (CCS) at NYU School of Law are seeking a full-time Operations Manager to coordinate our day-to-day operations and help develop and execute our long-term strategic vision. The Operations Manager will work closely with the leadership and affiliates of the centers to advance innovative and high-profile programming on real-world problems in the fields of national security and cybersecurity, all within the academic setting of a top-tier law school in New York City’s Greenwich Village neighborhood.

The Operations Manager is an integral part of a dynamic team, with responsibilities and opportunities across the programming, finance/grants, human resources, and communications work of our centers. This position reports to the RCLS Executive Director and the CCS Chair, and oversees operational aspects of the work of a Program Associate and interns.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial and self-driven candidate with a background in management and operations; someone who can solve problems, adapt to changing situations, exercise good judgment, and apply keen attention to detail while juggling multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Operations. You will ensure the smooth execution of all operational logistics for our events and publications, from long-term projects to rapid-response initiatives. You’ll work in conjunction with the centers’ staff and interns and various internal NYU Law vendors and external service providers.

Finance. You will coordinate budgetary operations, in close consultation with the centers’ leadership, including: the internal university finance process; the grants lifecycle from application through management/compliance through closure; and office finance tasks.

Human Resources/People Operations. You will serve as liaison on HR matters, in coordination with the centers’ leadership and law school HR team. This includes recruitment efforts, facilitating fellows and student scholarship programs, and demonstrating creative approaches to bringing in talent and implementing people operations.

Communications. You will collaborate on the planning and execution for marketing, communications, and social media strategies. Working with the Program Associate and others, you will help maintain the centers’ website, social media accounts, and email distribution lists.

Experience and Qualifications

Candidates for this position must have:

  • Experience in some combination of operations, event planning, finance, fundraising/grants management, personnel management, and/or other relevant capacities
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-driven and proactive approach to managing operations, including the ability to work independently and as part of small teams, and to set and stick to simultaneous deadlines for yourself while also helping others to do the same
  • Track record of success in developing and managing large and small projects and coordinating them simultaneously, maintaining vendor relationships, and managing interdependent budgets and resources
  • Professionalism, discretion, and flexibility for operating in a fast-moving and changeable environment and liaising with leading experts and practitioners
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to work occasional evening or off-hours for events or other demands.

Ideally you will also have:

  • Comfort with or willingness to learn:
    • Excel
    • WordPress
    • Mailchimp
    • Social media: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn
  • A sensibility for design and visual branding
  • Subject matter exposure or interest in the mission of RCLS and CCS.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $70,000 – $80,000, based on experience and qualifications. The position comes with generous NYU benefits, including:

  • medical, dental and vision;
  • matching retirement contributions;
  • generous vacation, personal, and sick leave policies (including 22 paid vacation days per year plus university holidays);
  • tuition remission at certain NYU schools after one year of employment.
