The Community Manager (Mid-Level Giving & Volunteer Manager) is a key member of the Federal Club program, which is the Human Rights Campaign’s mid-level donor program. This position is part of an energized team who provides overall strategic expertise, leadership and support to the volunteer leaders affiliated with the 32 Federal Clubs throughout the country to ensure the annual fundraising goals are met. Federal Club contribution levels begin at $1,200 per year (up to $4,999).
- Responsible for developing customized club growth and enhancement plans for Federal Clubs based on well-established strategies as well as new initiatives, including:
- Recruitment and retention of members through event planning and one-on-one solicitations;
- Donor-centered stewardship and retention strategies; and
- Consistent renewal and activation strategies to achieve annual fundraising goals.
- Work with Federal Club team members in developing and implementing policies, systems, and procedures to encourage volunteers to use “best practices” to reach fundraising goals in Federal Clubs nationwide.
- Manage a portfolio of local HRC Federal Clubs, monitoring the fundraising goals and travel to attend and speak at Federal Club events, trainings, and planning sessions as appropriate to help the leadership achieve the goals.
- Work cooperatively with the Major Gift Officers assigned to the same communities to identify major donor prospects and upgrades.
- As part of the Federal Club team, the position will share in being responsible for troubleshooting, and developing systems and procedures that reflect the on-going needs and changing environments of clubs to enhance club growth and efficiency capacity.
- Share in the responsibility for managing and responding to volunteer supply requests, information requests, event website postings, invitation consultation and printing, and additional requested resources.
- Assist the Director and team members in specialized projects to improve program systems and services to volunteers and donors.
- Provide support and leadership for National Federal Club events and special projects
- May take on special projects in needed areas such as special fundraising campaigns, management of overall stewardship efforts, and benefit fulfillment.
- Work with Federal Club team to develop Annual Co-Chair Training curriculum and materials; and coach and train volunteer leadership to be proficient in Federal Club policies, procedures, and systems.
- Represent the Federal Club team on designated inter-departmental projects and committees.
- Provide additional program support as needed.
- Provide detailed briefings and documents to senior HRC staff traveling to Federal Clubs throughout the country.
- Coordinate HRC staffing representation at Federal Club events around the country.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) as well as two to four years of successful fundraising experience, preferably with mid-level donor programs.
- Demonstrated experience working with highly motivated and demanding volunteers and donors with a commitment to high level customer service and donor support.
- Candidates with more than four years of relevant work experience maybe considered for hiring at the Senior Manager level.
- Good public speaking skills required. Experience delivering training preferred.
- Excellent leadership, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills are required.
- Strong analytical and planning skills are required.
- Familiarity and proficiency with donor databases.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word), Google Apps (Gmail, Google Docs and Drive) and the Web.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and work gracefully under pressure.
- Demonstrates initiative, creativity and diplomacy.
- Flexibility with work schedule; must be willing to travel and work evening and weekend hours. Must be willing to travel extensively in the United States, as at least 25% of work time.
- Strong interest in and knowledge of the rapidly changing LGBTQ equality movement.
