Managing Director, High Concept Labs

Status: Part-time, 30-hrs/wk, salaried, flexible hours, occasional nights and weekends required

Location: Hybrid remote and in-person at 205 E. Randolph Street, Chicago, IL, 60601 

*Occasional on-site requirements at the HCL studio at Mana Contemporary at 2233 S. Throop St., Chicago, IL, 60608

Availability: Immediate  

HCL seeks a Managing Director to help HCL realize and strengthen its mission, and partner with the Board of Directors and Artistic Director to execute the strategic plan. The Managing Director will ensure financial stability and maintain smooth daily operations, communications, and development strategies, and support HCL artists and residency programs through effective planning, marketing and resource management.

SCOPE OF WORK

Planning and Development

  • Work with the Board of Directors and Artistic Director to plan, develop and implement the current and future organizational objectives
  • Research, prepare and submit grant applications; file grant reports
  • Lead general operating funds grants, and coordinate with Artistic Director on programming grants
  • Research and maintain grant calendar and donor data base
  • Seek cash and in-kind contributions to support HCL
  • Work with board of directors on fundraising campaigns
  • Cultivate and manage organizational partnerships to provide resources for HCL; negotiate agreements and provide partnership contracts, as needed

Personnel and Operations

  • Meet regularly and work in coordination with Artistic Director
  • Work with and organize regular meetings of the Board of Directors and Committees of the Board, and maintain timely communications with Board and Committees
  • Hire interns and supervise interns working in areas other than programming; maintain relations with education institutions for internships
  • Hire and supervise contractors and consultants for projects and/or ongoing work, based on approved plans and budgets
  • Cultivate and maintain relations with organizations that provide volunteers
  • Manage contracts and agreements with artists, organizational partners, lessors, vendors and other contracted services.
  • Manage tenant leases and venue agreements
  • Maintain support for web server and office equipment

Communications and Marketing

  • Devise and implement strategies to increase visibility for HCL among funders, donors and audiences  
  • Collaborate  with Artistic Director and with individual artists to promote  studio events and performances
  • Maintain and distribute social media communications for HCL through regular electronic newsletters and social media posts
  • Produce and manage HCL communications assets including website, annual report, press releases, and other announcements
  • Maintain Public Relations database and mail list databases; coordinate survey collection
  • Maintain general communications for HCL through email, phone and other means as appropriate.

Financial Management

  • Manage the finances, budgeting and cash-flow of HCL to ensure and maintain a fiscally-healthy organization
  • Manage payments of monthly bills by check and/or electronic withdrawal
  • Process monthly payroll
  • Work with Board Treasurer and/or Finance Committee members on monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets and reports
  • Work with bookkeeper and/or accountant to submit annual tax returns and send IRS Forms W2 and 1099 to payees, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years or more in non-profit arts administration or equivalent experience
  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising
  • Experience in budgeting, cash flow and financial management
  • Experience in PR, digital marketing and managing social media tools and platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks, G-Suite and MS Office
  • Familiarity with web content management and email communication programs
  • Must be willing to adhere to Company’s COVID-19 workplace safety policies and protocols.
