POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Manager of Accounting for the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) is one of significant responsibility. The Manager of Accounting is responsible to and works under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). As with all CORE employees, however, ultimate supervisory responsibility is by the President/CEO. They will consult with the Chief Financial Officer directly on all matters that affect the financial well-being of CORE. They will be responsible for the day to day fiscal functions of the Center for Organ Recovery & Education.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Manager of Accounting of the Center for Organ Recovery & Education is responsible for the financial reporting functions of the Center. They supervises the CORE Bookkeeper and Accounting Clerk. They will prepare monthly financial statements for review by the Chief Financial Officer in order to determine acquisition costs of organs. They will prepare monthly reports for the Chief Financial Officer containing bank deposits, expenditures, outstanding invoices and account balances. They will reconcile the CORE bank accounts on a monthly basis. They will perform monthly income & expense account reconciliations. They will prepare and enter monthly journal entries. They will supervise the coding of donor and administrative invoices to assure that they are accounted for properly. They will assist in the preparation of the annual cost report for Medicare. They will prepare for the annual external audit of the Center’s financial records. He/she will be responsible for assuring accurate check preparation. They must be able to perform any and all functions of the CORE Bookkeeper and Staff Accountant. They will prepare monthly internal and external reconciled statistical reports. They ensures accurate and timely financial record retention. They may, from time to time be assigned additional job related functions by the Chief Financial Officer.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent for the position of Manager of Accounting should have, as a minimum, an accounting degree with no less than two years of accounting experience and must ensure that skills are maintained through continuing education. They must have knowledge of basic office procedures and accrual basis accounting. They must have experience in purchasing, billing, financial reporting, bank statement reconciliation and correspondence. They must have the ability to work in a sometimes hectic office environment. They must have sound judgment and be able to get along with all types of individuals. They must be able to maintain confidentiality. They should have a basic knowledge of computers and computer programs. They must have strong organizational skills. They must have the ability to work independently. They should understand basic medical terminology. Ideally the Manager of Accounting should have past experience in dealing with Medicare and/or insurance regulations. They must be able to communicate effectively and tactfully.

DEGREE OF JOB DIFFICULTY

Since the Manager of Accounting of the Center for Organ Recovery & Education is responsible for the day to day fiscal functions of the Center, the degree of difficulty falls into the moderate to considerable range. Inadvertent errors or mistakes could result in financial difficulties of the Center for Organ Recovery & Education.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

The Manager of Accounting will be responsible for the day to day supervision of the CORE Bookkeeper and Staff Accountant.
