Position Summary

Functioning within an agency service structure, be a thought partner to 5 revenue generating and fund portfolio management teams. Provide marketing and communication leadership through strategic advising, tactical planning and implementation of all marcomms activities. Provide a high-level of marcomms expertise realized through the exemplary project management of integrated programs and campaigns. Map, expand and grow audience segments through the use of fresh and compelling content delivered via digital and traditional communication channels [including website, social media, blogs, email, public relations, collateral, opinion/thought leadership pieces, advertising, video, webinars, and events].

Work to increase awareness of the Tides brand and amplify our Vision, Mission and Approach to enhance engagement and deepen relationships with key audiences. As a steward and ambassador of the Tides’ brand, ensure alignment and integration of branding [voice, look and feel] across all communication channels. Lead editorial planning, brand storytelling, advertising and new media identification and evaluation efforts. Partner with Director on other activities in support of a dynamic and growing organization.

This is a part-time temporary position. It is anticipated that the role will require 25 hours per week, starting as soon as possible and lasting approximately 6 months. At that time, on-going team needs will be re-assessed. This position will share job responsibilities with another part time role. The position will ideally be based on San Francisco in any anticipated return to work scenario.  Fully remote work may be considered for well qualified candidates.

Essential Functions

MARCOMMS STRATEGY, PLANNING & IMPLEMENTATION

•    Work on the External Marketing and Communications team with the Sr. Manager External Marketing and Communications and the Marketing & Evaluations Specialist

•    Provide strategic consulting, planning and implementation of high-impact marcomms plans and other activities for 4 revenue generating and fund portfolio management teams

o    Provide communications expertise to Client Services’ Advisors for their clients, funds, and grantees to support service goals and clients’ needs

o    Provide marcomms expertise to Strategic Partnerships to drive new business goals

o    Explore new ways to support internal clients

•    Build partnerships across Tides by exhibiting strong marcomms instincts and a willingness to collaborate for stronger impact and outcomes

•    Support internal clients through an agency model that aligns writers and designers with the work building consistency, trust and confidence in service delivery

•    Frame complex communications problems to yield areas of opportunity and recommend practical solutions toward desired outcomes

•    Seamlessly integrate digital and traditional communication channels into client planning including website, social media [including influencers], blogs, e-newsletters, email, public relations, collateral, opinion/thought leadership pieces, advertising, video, webinars, and events

•    With Director, lead brand storytelling by advancing Tides’ visibility across key stakeholders and audience segments

•    Develop and manage editorial calendar around compelling and relevant themes

o    Manage Tides’ brand and reputation by conducting landscape review around key topics to identify opportunities to position Tides in the philanthropic space

o    Ensure Tides VMA, Impact Model, and brand and issue area POV are appropriately embedded within editorial calendar

o    Amplify the works of our partner; review all efforts for consistency and tie into strategic themes

o    Work with internal authors, external experts, and writers

•    Ensure that a talented and diverse bench of writers is maintained and available; ensure channel and issue area expertise is reflected in our writers

•    Project manage activities reflecting strong time management skills that generates the timely delivery of work product

CROSS DEPARTMENT COLLABORATION

•    Collaborate with Tides’ departments as required: Internal Marketing and Communication, Innovation and Learning, IT, Legal, and Finance

DEPARTMENT PLANNING, BUDGET PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT

•    Assist in the development of the MarComms Department strategic plan [goals, strategies, and tactics]

•    Participate in the development of department strategic plans for internal clients; embed required support into the MarComms Department plan

•    Assist in the development of the annual MarComms Department budget

•    Maintain awareness of the MarComms Department Budget to ensure efficient and effective use of resources to meet departmental goals

OTHER

•    Serve on Task Forces and Work Teams as invited

•    Commitment to Tides Strategic Path and MarComm Department goals and activities and to their successful implementation

•    Proven B2B and/or B2C marketing communications skills to manage the development of plans designed to enhance awareness, build key audience engagement, and increase revenue

Education and Software/Technology

•    B.A./B.S. or higher degree in marketing communications; Master’s Degree a plus

•    8-10 years of broad-based marketing and communications experience

•    Nonprofit sector and B2B experience a plus

•    Experience in advertising creation and placement

•    Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research a plus

•    Fluent in MS Office suite of products

•    Fluent in Adobe Creative Cloud

•    Experience with WordPress or other website CMS

•    Familiar with CRM/Database Management practices

•    Experience with marketing automation platforms like HubSpot a plus
