Learning & Development (L&D) Project Manager

Position Summary:

Do you like designing and implementing employee development programs like e-learning courses, workshops, and other training styles? Do you enjoy being the subject matter expert acting as the first point of contact coordinating with internal colleagues or external partners? Do you have experience supporting Learning Management Systems activities, inquiries, and management? Then come to work as the temporary part-time Learning & Development (L&D) Project Manager for the American Physical Society (APS)! This role is a temporary part-time position and is expected to be a nine-month term or less. Ideal candidates will also be considered for future consulting opportunities.

Responsibilities:

Learning Management:

  • Act as L&D subject matter expert in the development and deployment of our new Learning and Development roadmap
  • Gather feedback following the deployment of the L&D projects and propose future improvements/ enhancements.
  • In-house, act as the point of contact for system or process issues/enhancements and coordinate with internal colleagues or partners to rapidly find solutions
  • Implement various learning methods organization-wide (e.g., coaching, job shadowing, online training)
  • Design and deliver e-learning courses, workshops, and other training
  • Support content development and content design, and facilitate L&D course offerings when needed
  • Obtains and /or develops effective training materials utilizing a variety of media.
  • Trains and coaches managers, supervisors and others involved in employee development efforts.
  • Conducts follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results
  • Facilitates Train-the-Trainers (TTT) sessions

Project Management:

  • Manage and lead all aspects of employee L&D projects, including initial scope, design, development, implementation, budget, and resources management.
  • Administers spending against the departmental budget
  • Plans, organize, facilitate, and order supplies for employee development and training events
  • Works effectively as a team member with other members of management and the HR staff

Communications Coordinator:

  • Develops and maintains organizational communications such as intranet bulletin boards and newsletters to ensure employees have knowledge of training and development events and resources.
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the APS
  • Develops applicable training collaterals (e.g., how-to-guides, reference guides), including Train-the-Trainers (TTT)
  • Facilitates Train-the-Trainers (TTT) sessions

Education:  Bachelor's degree in relevant field. In lieu of a degree, 4 years of relevant experience may be accepted.

Certifications: Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential preferred.  SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential preferred.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • A minimum of four years of experience designing and implementing employee development programs, including train-the-trainer models required
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering training sessions in a hybrid setting and audience management
  • Experience with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods
  • Experience evaluating and researching training options and alternatives
  • Experience designing and implementing effective training and development
  • Experience with vendor management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering training sessions in a hybrid setting and audience management

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with Slack & Asana
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace & Zoom
  • Familiarity with Mac OS Computers
  • Knowledge of Adult learning theory and best practices

 

Travel: Position may require some business travel to other APS offices and to attend meetings, events, and conferences as directed by the supervisor.

Work Environment:

Our physical offices are located in College Park, MD, Washington D.C and Hauppauge, N.Y. We are operational in most US states. We are not operational in all 50 states. The APS has a “remote first” concept that promotes equal treatment and equal access within the United States, independent of physical work location, with a majority of staff working primarily from remote work locations. APS allows flexible work hours; responsiveness is required, however, during the core 9 am to 5pm Eastern Standard Time workday.
