Qualifications

  • Masters in social work, mental health counseling or related field
  • LMSW required
  • LCSW preferred
  • Minimum 7 years experience as an LMSW and/or LCSW

Proven ability to:

  1. Work collaboratively to psychosocially assess, determine eligibility and recommend relief for clients/potential clients in times of crisis
  2. Apply excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence and strategic thinking skills to interacting with potential clients/clients
  3. Effectively manage multiple, diverse clients/potential clients
  4. Exhibit empathy and compassion for individuals with challenges/struggles (legal, financial, housing, etc.) and a full spectrum of diagnosed and undiagnosed disorders
  5. Effectively research appropriate country-wide resources for clients that complement and support the organization’s mission
  6. Engage in follow-up care, including check-in calls
  7. Maintain detailed, accurate clients records in a timely fashion and in keeping with federal standards
  8. Accurately document notes, plans, etc. within a database
  9. Create new programs to broaden community outreach

Job Description

The Musicians’ Advocate will:

  • Provide ongoing case management services as necessary
  • Provide referrals for musicians to other assistance organizations and monitor the progress of those referrals
  • Provide informal counseling services and provide resources for addition counseling as necessary
  • Engage in the development of new programs that service the jazz, blue and roots community throughout the country
  • Participate in daily communication with the social work team and weekly staff meetings to enhance the experience of musicians
  • Conduct research on resources throughout the country that complement and support JFA’s mission
  • Engage in follow up care that includes check-in calls for musicians who have been identified as needing additional support
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate clients records and complete documentation in a timely manner that meets federal standards
  • Participate in monthly assistance agency meetings for information gathering and presentation of cases

For 33 years, the Jazz Foundation of America has provide compassionate, discreet and personalized assistance to jazz, blues and roots musicians in need due to age, illness, natural disasters and other circumstances.

Our Musicians’ Emergency Fund provides housing assistance, pro bono medical care, disaster relief and financial support to musicians and their families in times of crisis. Through Jazz and Blues in the Schools and the Gig Fund, we create dignified work that brings live music to thousands of under-served audience members of all ages across the country.

Whatever the need is, we don’t just fix the problem, we become family. During the pandemic, we have assisted in more than 9,000 individual cases a year in 43 states across the U.S. and in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
