The Intake Specialist will serve as the primary person to conduct participant intakes for the Behavioral Health programs, acquiring pertinent information for the purpose of assessments and level of care assignments.  The Intake Specialist will also participate in outreach assignments. The Intake Specialist reports directly to the Program Manager.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Answers and screens inquiry calls and emails from prospective participants.
  • Assist in agency outreach efforts to recruit new participants.
  • Schedules timely appointments for intakes, and when scheduling permits, accepts walk-ins for intakes.
  • Completes assessments and intake processes efficiently and in accordance with protocols; using LOCATDR and screening tools arriving at treatment recommendations and level of care decisions that are appropriate to participant’s level of functioning and medical necessity.
  • Verify all program eligibility criteria.
  • Accurately and timely communicates potential and confirmed intakes with appropriate departments
  • Maintain good working relationships with all referring agencies, staff, participants and visitors
  • Responsible for maintaining census counts and appropriately reporting in OASAS availability systems for all levels of care.
  • Must be able to understand what a person needs when presenting in crisis or in a less than optimum state of health.
  • Attention to detail when reviewing assessments, screening tools and psychosocial history, ensuring optimal recommendations.
  • Completes psychosocial assessments and other assessment screening tools.
  • Monitor the collection of urine specimens and toxicology results
  • Ensures all admission forms are properly signed and stored in ECR.
  • Communicates with other team members to ensure efficient flow of data.
  • Makes referrals to other services and service providers as needed.
  • Participates in outreach activities and conducts program presentations.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.

Education and/or Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred with 2 years of related experience working with individuals with SUD; or an active NYS CASAC credential with a minimum of 4 years experience in a substance use treatment setting.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check, obtain clearance from the Office of Children and Family Services and be drug free.

Employment Type: Full Time

Evenings and some weekends required.

Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) a plus.

Salary details: $43k annually.
