The Children’s Museum has an opening for a Human Resource Director to manage both strategic human resources planning and development and the day-to-day human resources operations; fostering a work environment that encourages equitable and inclusive practices, high performance, excellent customer service, creativity, collaboration and innovation. A priority for this role is the continued development and implementation of a strategy for Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion (DEAI) throughout the organization. The HR Director reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Position Specifications: Full-time, 40 hours per week; typical schedule is Monday- Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends as needed

Rate: $100,000 - $115,000

HR Strategy and Management

  • Translates organizational strategies and needs into HR strategic and operational plans.
  • Leads the process for assessing organizational needs, employee performance and values alignment.
  • Serves as a thought partner of the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Collaborates with Museum leadership and staff on efforts to build and execute strategies and processes that promote a culture of belonging, accountability, positive work environment and staff engagement.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement by implementing new/updated HR policies, procedures and systems, and recommending improvements to ways of working.
  • Collates and analyzes data for the preparation of accurate and timely reporting.
  • Supports a Museum-wide view of HR activities that enables informed decision-making and consistent information for stakeholders.
  • Formulate budgets for specific projects, programs and initiatives.

Talent Management

  • Designs and implements an employee experience program that fosters strong employee engagement throughout the employee life cycle and supports organizational goals.
  • Contributes to building and managing talent by working with managers to understand their needs, and delivering solutions to recruit, retain, manage and develop a high-caliber and engaged workforce.
  • Provides leadership for organization-wide learning and development to address priorities such as DEAI, peer to peer relationships, leadership development and interfacing with the public.
  • Work collaboratively across Museum departments to advance the Museum’s strategic goals and mission.

Total rewards

  • In collaboration with Museum leadership, develops and communicates the Museum’s compensation philosophy.
  • Leads compensation and benefits analysis.
  • Monitors the Museum’s salary structure while balancing financial parameters and staff retention objectives.
  • Manages the employee benefit program, including analyzing options for employee benefit packages and making recommendations for changes as appropriate.

Diversity, Equity, Access and Inclusion

  • Fosters a culture of diversity, equity, access and inclusion by incorporating DEAI values into all relevant processes and programs.
  • Supports a diverse workforce through employee programs and benefits offerings aimed at employee engagement and retention.
  • Identifies internal and external resources to support DEAI work and initiatives.

Employee Relations

  • Determines, recommends and communicates employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promotes a high level of employee morale and motivation.
  • Provides support and guidance to management and other staff for complex, specialized and sensitive questions and issues.
  • Provides oversight and/or conducts investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth.

Compliance

  • Develops and oversees HR related policies and procedures, including maintaining the employee handbook.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices.
  • Monitor compliance with personnel policies and procedures to assure that they are followed consistently throughout the Museum.

Supervisory

  • Supervise the HR Generalist.
  • Oversee outsourced Human Resource support as needed.
  • Offers direction and support that ensures both effective results and engaged employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in related field is required. Equivalent experience considered.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory responsibilities within human resources
  • Advanced HR certification(s) is desirable.
  • Ability to consistently promote, support, work and act in a manner that supports the Museum’s vision, mission and values.
  • Strong sense of professionalism, including integrity, honesty and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of developing and implementing DEAI goals and values in HR processes.
  • Knowledge of state and federal personnel policies and requirements.
