Young Eisner Scholars is seeking a highly-organized, responsible, and dynamic National Development and Communications Manager to help cultivate, steward, and expand our relationships with corporate, foundation, and individual donors. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position is an integral part of YES’ National Leadership Team and is critical to laying the groundwork for the organization’s long-term financial sustainability. The National Development and Communications Manager will help develop and execute the organization’s new fund development plan and will build the infrastructure and implement the technology needed to support the department. 

Essential Functions 

Fundraising (50%)

  • Cultivate and steward relationships to increase visibility, impact, and financial resources for YES via individual donations, corporate sponsorships, and foundation grants. 
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and National Leadership Team to identify major giving prospects and cultivation strategies for supporters with a capacity to give ($10K+).
  • Serve as the organization’s lead grant writer, and develop and implement strategies to engage new and existing foundation and institutional partners. Manage funder and contractor relationships and ensure grant compliance and accurate reporting.
  • Oversee strategy and implementation of direct mail and digital campaigns to support annual giving at YES.
  • Work with the Board of Directors at YES to host and/or participate in YES’ fundraising events; help coordinate and/or attend events as needed.
  • Manage the implementation, maintenance, and utilization of the donor database for donor management, and revenue reporting. 
  • Enter all gifts, pledges, and other financial transactions in the Bloomerang database with accuracy and attention to detail. Ensures revenue is properly classified including the addition of gift solicitor, soft credits, and other information vital for gift recognition and stewardship.
  • Produce accurate and timely gift acknowledgments letters. Prepares and ensures the prompt mailing of tribute notifications, tax statements, acknowledgments, and other correspondence.
  • Conducts basic prospect research to update donor addresses, employment, etc. as needed.
  • Oversee YES’ donor recognition and retention program and ensure management efforts are being tracked in the organization’s donor database.

Communications (20%)

  • Work with the Digital Brand Manager and the National Leadership Team to coordinate YES’ monthly newsletter, social media content, and other digital communications.
  • Assist with the creation of marketing-communications content including drafting and editing marketing copy, creating event fliers, providing edit notes for videos, and maintaining the content library.
  • Manages and segments mailing lists and contact lists, including MailChimp audiences.
  • Assist with periodic review and improvement of marketing-communications and fundraising workflows.
  • Assist with reporting and analysis of marketing-communication channels and fundraising data.

Strategy (20%)

  • Collaborate with all YES staff to develop shared strategies around supporter engagement and elevating YES’ website, social media, and its print and digital collateral.
  • Develop short- and long-term strategic goals for YES’ fundraising, including timelines and budget; assess areas for growth, and support leadership in launching new donor and event-related initiatives.
  • Utilize donor prospecting tools to conduct research on individuals, corporations, and foundations for prospect activity and maintain the integrity of the data.

Other (10%)

  • Share in the day-to-day operations of the organization as it relates to the duties of the position or as in the normal course of running YES, as do the other staff members (i.e. special projects, conferences, logistics, etc.).

Supervisory Responsibility 
This position is responsible for supervising at least one employee (potentially more as YES  grows) as well as contractors and consultants to support the implementation of diverse fundraising strategies at YES.

Work Environment

This position is a hybrid model, requiring time in-office (as the primary work location) as well as the opportunity to work remotely under a Remote Work Agreement with YES.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, exempt position with some nights and weekends required. Typical working hours are 

Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m.-5:00p.m., but can be flexible.  

Travel 

This position may require local, state-wide, and national travel to support fundraising efforts. YES will cover any associated travel costs, as per the YES Travel Policy. As needed, will travel to train or support other branches in developing or implementing YES fundraising efforts.

Required Education, Competencies, and Experience

  • Required history of developing and maintaining strategic partnerships, securing grants, corporate partnerships, and major gifts that contribute to the increasing visibility, impact, and financial resources of an organization over time
  • Experience in planning, leading and managing revenue goals, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes and tracking and reporting on progress to the Board of Directors and Executive Director
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree, and/or relevant professional certification preferred.
  • 5-7 years of progressive fundraising experience required; including the donor relations process, successful grant writing, and event management.
  • Experience building organizational systems and processes, including onboarding new software and management tools/systems
  • Profound and confident understanding of foundation priorities and grant-making practices to make strategic decisions with funding requests. 
  • Demonstrated level of comfort with public speaking and presenting complex information in a compelling manner to a variety of audiences
  • Detail-oriented, highly-organized, with the ability to prioritize time to set and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills; ability to achieve in a fast-paced environment and proven experience managing large-scale projects.
  • Exceptional skills in comprehension, analysis, and technical writing, including the ability to articulate and explain complex funding and financial issues in a clear, non-technical manner.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • A personal and professional relatability with a commitment to serve the organization’s diverse service population, and the ability to effectively interact, work and develop meaningful relationships with people of various cultural backgrounds (emotionally intelligent and culturally competent).
  • Demonstrated integrity, strives for excellence in their work, and has experience in leading others to new levels of effectiveness and mission impact.
  • Spanish fluency in speaking, reading, and writing is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits*

  • Starting salary range is $70,000 - $75,000, dependent on experience.
