The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the San Francisco Bay Area is on the leading edge of community relations and public affairs for the Jewish community. JCRC represents the organized Jewish community in complex community and government relations, legislative affairs, and inter-ethnic and inter-faith relationship building efforts. We seek a Grants Manager and Writer who will provide timely submission of exceptionally researched, written, and documented letters of inquiry, proposals, and grant reports to generate revenue from foundations, funders and philanthropists to support the work of JCRC and its initiatives.


Fundraising and reporting

  • Prepare compelling letters of inquiry and grant proposals and related reports to support the organization’s fundraising goals and programs.
  • Maintain strong and positive relationships with funders and donors through timely, well-written progress and annual grant reports as well as personal cultivation.

Grant tracking, data analysis and presentation

  • Develop and maintain a tracking, calendaring, and tickler system for all grants, including proposal submissions, and reporting deadlines.
  • Manage the grant proposal and reporting process by serving as the “quarterback” to ensure that all the information needed for the grant is gathered in a timely fashion. This includes communicating with staff about grant goals, outcomes, and deliverables that relate to their work and ensuring that the information (including data, budgets, etc.) needed is collected accordingly.
  • Develop clear system for tracking progress with prospects and funders from identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, to continued stewardship.
  • Utilize eTapestry and other resources/tools to gather relevant development data and background information and then analyze, interpret, and present that data in clear and compelling reports.
  • Ensure submissions, grant agreements, and reporting deadlines are captured in eTapestry.
  • As appropriate, work with development staff to ensure individual funder information is captured in eTapestry.

Prospect research and proposal writing

  • Identify, research and present foundation and individual prospects to staff with suggested plan of action. Discuss strategies and next steps from identification to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • As appropriate, join staff in cultivation meetings with program officers and philanthropic advisors.

Organizational responsibilities

  • Facilitate monthly meetings with all staff involved in fundraising to collaborate, share information, and work to meet the needs and priorities of the organization (in collaboration with Development Manager).
  • Participate as needed in meetings relevant to grants/proposals.
  • Assist with preparation of and follow-through on internal documents relating to grants, including working with finance department, programs and project staff.
  • Keep up to date on the work of JCRC and its initiatives by reading newsletters, Executive Director’s weekly Headlines email, and other organizational communications.



  • BA or BS degree
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience with grant writing experience with proven success in grant awards
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple grant-, research-, or prospecting-related projects simultaneously
  • Ability to read and understand budgets as part of grant packages
  • Excellent writing, editing, grammar, research, tracking and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; comfortable both as an individual contributor and as a team member
  • Ability to listen and develop information into grant proposals
  • Detail oriented
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising
  • Understanding of donor database programs; familiarity with eTapestry a plus
  • Flexibility to work with multiple individuals and programs within the organization

Previous experience working in the Jewish community a plus.
