EPI is seeking a Grant Accountant who will be responsible for managing foundation grants, processing payroll and accounts payable transactions.

This position is based in Washington, DC.  EPI staff are currently working remotely due to the corona virus pandemic.  We will resume in-person work at EPI’s office in Washington when it is safe to do so.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

  • Develop budgets for grant proposals in close collaboration with program staff
  • Create financial reports for grants using the appropriate templates for each foundation or funder
  • Regularly monitor and update staffing matrix showing percentage of staff time committed to each grant in compliance with funder restrictions
  • Monitor sub-awards to EARN partners and other grassroots organizations. EARN is a nationwide network of nearly 60 state and local policy research and advocacy organizations which is coordinated by staff at EPI
  • Ensure documents are signed for all new grants
  • Ensure communications procedures are in place
  • Ensure staff allocations are updated in the payroll system
  • Process bi-weekly payroll in the ADP system
  • Prepare and upload payroll journal entries to SAGE Intacct
  • Process accounts payable (AP) in Bill.com
  • Reconcile bank information in SAGE Intacct
  • Reconcile monthly credit card transactions
  • Work with the Director of Finance and Administration on preparing audit schedules

Who You Are:

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Five (5) years’ experience as an Accountant, two (2) years of which should be in managing grants
  • Accounts Payable software experience primarily with Bill.com is preferred
  • Excellent financial management and accounting skills including developing and managing budgets

Desired Qualifications:

  • Accounting software experience primarily with SAGE Intacct is preferred
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong problems-solving skills
  • Ability to strategize and analyze financial and budgeting issues
  • Experience processing payroll in ADP Workforce Now
  • Experience using Excel including Pivot tables
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

EPI is a unionized workplace with the Non-Profit Professional Employees Union (NPEU).  This position is in the bargaining unit and reports to the Director of Finance and Administration.

The salary for this position is between $75,000 and $85,000 commensurate with experience.
