Position Summary

The Governance and Awards Manager manages the annual nominations process for Societal Committees, Officers/Councilors, Geographic Sections, Scientific Divisions, and GSA representatives to external committees.  This position is a liaison to the Section and Division leadership, Interdisciplinary Interest Groups, and Associated Societies. This position maintains proper GSA governance documentation of Committees, Divisions, Sections, Interdisciplinary Interest Groups and Associated Societies. The position is responsible to plan and coordinate meetings and events held in-person and virtually on an annual schedule and as needed. These include the Presidential Address and Awards Ceremony at the GSA annual meeting, and meetings of the GSA Section Secretaries, Division Chairs, and Associated Societies in addition to the Nominations Committee meetings and the Director Liaison Staff Training. The position administers the GSA Awards Program including serving as the committees’ staff liaison and communicating with the awardees.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage the annual nominations process for Societal Committees, Officers/Councilors, Sections, Divisions, and GSA representatives to external committees. This involves a high level of competency in database management.
  • Act as GSA Headquarters liaison to the Sections, Divisions, Interdisciplinary Interest Groups, and Associated Societies.
  • Administer the GSA Awards Program for Societal Awards and coordinate awards for Divisions and Sections.
  • Maintain proper GSA governance documentation of Committees, Scientific Divisions, Geographic Sections, Interdisciplinary Interest Groups and Associated Societies.
  • Plan and coordinate meetings and events held in-person and virtually on an annual schedule and as needed. These include the Presidential Address and Awards Ceremony at the GSA annual meeting, and annual meetings of the GSA Section Secretaries, Division Chairs, and Associated Societies in addition to the Nominations Committee meetings.

 

Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience preferred
  • Necessary profession competencies include initiative, communication, critical thinking, creativity, analytical reasoning, and process management.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to easily coordinate multiple, detail-oriented projects simultaneously
  • Aptitude for establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships
  • Professional demeanor and ability to exercise mature judgement when working with Society members, staff, and outside contacts. Skill and experience with database entry and query (knowledge of association management databases is a plus).
  • Highly proficient in MS Office and Google suite.  Ability to quickly learn new software and systems.  Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage virtual hybrid meetings and some knowledge of databases.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

 

Other Requirements

  • On occasion, will be required to work evenings and/or weekends.  Able to travel locally, nationally, and sometimes internationally approximately once per year.
  • Extensive computer work – 7 or more hours per day, multiple projects and multiple deadlines that create a demanding work environment are standard, maintain inventory, pack crates, and archive material, arrange for move as needed.
  • The selected candidate may conduct some business remotely, but regular hours will be required onsite.
  • Must be fully vaccinated from COVID. Note: Medical or religious exemption may be considered.

Salary range is $51,994 to $72,792 based on experience. Benefits include 403(b), PTO, Wellness /IT benefit, and sick leave. Recognized additional time off include Juneteenth and Indigenous Peoples Day in 2022.
