We are seeking an experienced candidate to fill the role of Finance Manager. This position will report to the Director of Finance. As an integral member of the Finance Team, the Finance Manager will perform financial analysis and assist with the development of monthly financial dashboards for Leadership and the Board of Directors. Ability to convert complex concepts into user-friendly information is desirable. Process accounts receivable to ensure proper allocation of funds. Must ensure that the accounts payable and the organization’s financial obligations are met efficiently. Year-end responsibilities for tax-related requirements will include processing 1099s and assisting with audits.

The role is remote, but occasional travel to the Chicago headquarters may be required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support finance management with budget development and reporting
  • Assist in development and implementation of financial and accounting policies to improve analysis and reporting to management, streamline/enhance process workflows of department
  • Prepare, analyze, and review schedules for annual audit process
  • Perform month and year end closing activities
  • Assist with analyses and identification of meaningful financial and operational metrics to measure progress toward goals to be issued monthly
  • Process accounts receivable and payable entries
  • Process bi-weekly payroll expenses and journal entries
  • Prepare records for and participate in the annual Workers Compensation audit
  • Issue vendor 1099s and complete and file Form 1096
  • Complete annual reporting, application and appeals to Better Business Bureau, Charity
  • Navigator and CFC and state fundraising registrations
  • Perform internal control functions as requested by Finance Director
  • Provide training and support of financial and accounting policies and tasks to necessary staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance

Skills

  • Self-motivated with desire to contribute to team successes
  • Data driven mindset with a track record of developing valuable financial models / dashboards
  • Strong command of accounting concepts (debits/credits, fixed assets, restricted assets, depreciation, capitalization, accruals/deferrals)
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written skills

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting required
  • CPA certification required
  • Prior experience working in nonprofit finance at increasingly higher levels preferred
  • Existing knowledge of nonprofit accounting and GAAP with audit experience preferred
  • Experience working with teams
  • Proficiency with accounting programs and software, such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Peoplesoft, or Microsoft Dynamics; Experience and knowledge of QuickBooks a plus
  • Familiarity with reporting programs and software, such as Cognos Analytics
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel Skills
