BARGAINING UNIT POSITION TITLE: Field Business Agent

Salary position ($50,000 per year plus great Union benefits)

Probation period: 6 months with monthly work reviews

Minimum hours of work per week: 40

Job Summary
This position is responsible for all areas of membership service, but primarily, handling day to day phone call, grievances, preparation of arbitration cases and negotiating contracts with the employers under agreements with UFCW Local 1445. This is a highly visible position with extensive contact with our union members, Local’s legal counsel as well as Local’s executive board members This is not a 9 to 5 job - long and varied hours, with early morning, evening, weekend work and travel, including overnight stays at times.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible of servicing at least 1,300 members and approximately 15 sites
  • Responsible to log in all daily activity on the Local Union reporting system.
  • Responsible to visit the facilities you are responsible at least once per week/to communicate and interact one-one with the membership.
  • Responsible to return members phone calls, emails or any other type of communication within 24 hours of received.
  • Responsible to respond to employers’ emails or any other type of communication on the daily basis.
  • Responsible to scheduled contract proposal meetings with members.
  • Responsible to prepared contract proposals with bargaining committee.
  • Responsible to scheduled contract negotiation meetings with your employers and chair the negotiations
  • Responsible to type and modify all changes negotiated in a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Responsible to assist bargaining unit employees in all aspects of employee/employer labor and employment relations. Including conducting investigatory meetings
  • Responsible to represent members at disciplinary meetings and attends and presents cases during grievance procedures, (including meetings and arbitration hearings with the Local Union legal counsel).
  • Responsible to assist with investigating complaints/unfair labor practices filed by an employer or a member.
  • Responsible to attend to the Local Union quarterly membership meetings.
  • Responsible to participates and supports the Local Union’s organizing campaigns.
  • Responsible to participates in community, political and Local Union events.
  • Responsible to prepare correspondence as needed.
  • Responsible to perform other duties as assigned by the leadership of the Local Union.
  • REQUIRED TO HAVE A VEHICLE AND A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE
