The full-time Family Coach role is responsible for providing transformative coaching to Jeremiah Program (JP) participants seeking to secure foundational basic needs, complete higher education, and ensure their children flourish in education and beyond. The Family coach walks alongside moms authoring their own stories and is directly responsible for personal and group coaching, local programming and resource referrals and navigation assistance. The Family Coach is one of the most critical agents of JP’s two-generation mission and must embody an unrelenting belief in the humanity, power and capacity of our moms. The Family Coach role reports directly to the Family Services Manager, who reports to the Executive Director.
- Recognize the deep humanity of the JP mom and her children and enable the conditions for safe, judgement free reflection that is rooted in an understanding of the systemic barriers that affect single moms experiencing poverty, including but not limited to race, gender and class barriers
- Co-develop individual goals and action plans for participants to provoke self-discovery and personal growth; engage in goal setting and meaningful action directly tied to successful college completion
- Establish meaningful and trusting relationships with individuals and cohorts of families, a key pre-requisite for effective consistent coaching
- Deliver robust, effective coaching that effectively moves participants closer to their goals for their own and their children’s well-being, encourages agency and promotes alignment between their personal values and actions
- Provide support, crisis intervention, guidance, and resource referrals to address a variety of barriers to the student-parent journey, including housing, legal services, immigration, finances, food security and more.
- Reinforce program concepts and tools learned in JP programming.
Program Facilitation and Delivery
- Work closely with the local and national program staff to deliver high-quality programming that is responsive and meaningful in supporting moms in their journeys
- Collaborate with families, partnering with participants to take active roles in programming and the community.
- Understand and apply program policies, protocols and processes, tracking participant progress and outcomes and providing redirection and follow-up where applicable.
- Deliver local parent-child and cohort cohesion programming
- Contribute to and learn from multiple professional communities at the local site and across JP, collaborating across the organization to learn, plan and improve
- Maintain efficient, confidential and organized records in the organizational database to ensure accurate recordkeeping
- Oversee and execute the data collection strategy that allows JP to make data-informed decisions about ongoing efforts to support moms deeply
The full-time Family Coach must believe in and be a passionate advocate for JP’s mission and values. Coaches will work with moms from a range of background and must be able to engage with deep cultural competence, humility and commitment to our values. Coaches must be open to professional development, growth and feedback. A strong applicant will possess the qualifications below:
- Minimum of two years of coaching experience, preferably with coursework or training in life, family or executive coaching.
- Experience leading and developing relationships with individuals and groups across difference
- Excellent, culturally competent communication and relationship building skills
- A development orientation and track record of seeking professional growth
- The ability to work collaboratively with peers and other key stakeholders across local and national teams
- A deep understanding of the structural inequities that lead to generational poverty
- Proficiency in computer and data entry skills and an ability to learn new technologies that enable effectiveness in the role
- Availability on some nights and weekends to deliver occasional local programming
- BA/BS (Master’s degree preferred) in education, human services, social work, or related field
