Morgan Autism Center seeks an experienced, visionary, dynamic and passionate Executive Director to lead this organization into the future. Morgan Autism Center has been providing highly effective and compassionate educational services for individuals with autism or other development disabilities for over 54 years. The Executive Director will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to drive growth and development, oversee and implement the organization’s strategic vision, and provide leadership for over 90 faculty and staff, ensuring program integrity and development.


The position reports directly to and works closely with the Board of Directors. The position oversees a team of 90, directly supervises a team of 9, and works closely with senior leadership and volunteers.



•     Demonstrate strong visionary leadership experience (preferably from either a public school or non-public school environment), general knowledge of the non-profit sector.

•     Manage and oversee a team of 90 (9 direct reports).

•     Represent and inspire all educational partners within the Morgan Autism Center community.

•     Support and nurture a culturally diverse community, both internally and externally.

•     Create opportunities to engage with the community through public speaking and networking.


•     Implement financial strategies, including budget management, profit/loss statements, balance sheets, annual audits, and contract management/negotiation.

•     Collaborate with the Development Director in identifying and organizing potential fundraising resources.

•     Identify, cultivate, and steward major gifts prospects and donors in collaboration with the development staff and board.


•     Work with the board chair to set agendas and direction for full board meetings and committee meetings.

•     Provide support to utilize the talents and resources of the Board and work closely with the Board to ensure the organization maintains strong fiscal health and effective governance.

•     Partner with the Board and staff in the development and execution of short and long-term goals.

•     Translate approved goals into action and oversee their implementation.


•     Recruit, train, and develop a talented team of employees.

•     Stay educated and abreast of best practices with regard to personnel management and human resources, promoting transparency and collaboration throughout the organization.

•     Effectively supervise, develop, and motivate managers by creating and maintaining conditions for successful performance.

•     Inspire a strong professional culture that provides for equity, transparency, and professional development.


•     Five or more years of progressively challenging experience as a successful educational administrator

•     Comprehensive knowledge of autism and PDD, special education systems, developmental disability services, trends in the sector, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations

•     Hands-on experience working with children and adults with autism or other development disabilities, including behavioral and medical issues

•     Developed capabilities in creating family support systems and collaborating with school districts and SELPA personnel

•     Graduate degree required in relevant subject area

•     CA teaching credential preferred

•     Successful experience working with parent and caregiver populations

•     Experience in developing and implementing programs, and organizational and financial plans with a Board of Directors

•     Strong diplomacy skills – ability to work respectfully and closely in a partnership manner with various colleagues and entities

•     Proven track record of working with a culturally diverse population of community leaders, board members, volunteers, and staff

•     Ability to be highly organized, efficient, and effective in task and time management

•     Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers, Board members, and volunteers proactively and effectively

•     Demonstrated business development skills, strong public speaking skills, community relations and networking capabilities.

•     Exceptional written and verbal communications skills

The salary range for this position is $175,000-$220,000


Medical (Kaiser HMO or Blue Shield HMO or PPO) – Morgan Autism Center pays 100% for employees.

Dental (Direct Dental) – Morgan Autism Center pays 100% for employees; there is no cost to employees for Dental Insurance.

Vision (VSP) – Morgan Autism Center pays 100% for employees; there is no cost to employees for Vision Insurance.

Life insurance and Long-Term Disability (Reliance) – Morgan Autism Center pays 100% for employees; there is no cost to employees for Long-Term Disability Insurance.

Retirement: Morgan Center has a Retirement 403(a) plan for all employees into which a percentage of their salary (determined by the Board) is deposited yearly, after a qualifying period.  This plan is different from a personal 403(b) which is provided to all employees as an option.

Vacation/PTO: PTO is provided to all employees. Administrative staff is provided with 65 hours of PTO per year.
