Blackbelt Benefit Group (BBG) is a nonprofit 501C(3)  organization whose mission is “to create, promote and sustain solutions that provide a better quality of life in Alabama's Blackbelt Region. To keep talented residents here and to attract new residents and new opportunities to the area, all while highlighting the abundance of historical and cultural resources that the Blackbelt holds.” BBG curates fundraisers and events that showcase the arts, food, and culture of Alabama’s Blackbelt Region.  These events bring people together to raise funds for local organizations, as well as promote education and tourism.  “We strive to perform all of this while putting the “fun” back in fundraising!”

BBG is growing and is in search of its first Executive Director. The organization is seeking an energetic, experienced and innovative person to lead the organization through its next phase of growth. The ED will work closely with the Board of Directors in fulling the organization’s mission and vision.  This person will also have strategic leadership, planning, community engagement, grant writing, fundraising, and management skills.

This person will also be responsible for the organization’s day to day operations, programming, and administrative support for the Board of Directors.

The new ED will also:

  1. Plan and manage events that promote the mission and vision of BBG (managing volunteers, managing the event’s budgets, negotiating contracts, overseeing the permit process, and other logistics)
  2. Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with current and prospective sponsors and funders
  3. Oversee the grant management process, including researching, writing, and submission of grants
  4. Assist in the diversification of revenue streams and programming
  5. Work closely with board and sponsors to ensure all proposed objectives are achieved
  6. Oversee current programs, like Grow Selma, and identify ways to improve and expand programming
  7. Assist in the development and implementation of new projects
  8. Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders to carry out the organization’s mission and vision
  9. Identify trends and strategies that enhance BBG programming
  10. Oversee the fund distribution and reporting process for recipients of BBG’s fundraisers
  11. Oversee communications, including maintaining social media, print materials, and the website
  12. Develop and monitor organizational/project budgets
  13. Develop policies and procedures that increase operational capacity (i.e. volunteer management, fiscal management, etc.)
  14. Ensure timely filing of required state and federal forms, reports, grant applications, etc.
  15. Additional duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Five years of experience working in a nonprofit/community-based organization environment
  • Undergraduate degree preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of arts/cultural and community development programming
  • Proven track record in grant writing and fundraising.
  • Experience in budget development and fiscal management skills
  • Exceptional written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational competencies including planning, delegating, program development and oversight
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship management skills, including working with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Experience in Advanced Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bookkeeping Experience-Quickbooks or equivalent
  • Knowledge of fundraising software programs a plus (i.e., Salesforce)
  • Able to prioritize projects and “pivot”
  • Must be a self-starter able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • A Familiarity of the Blackbelt region

This is a full-time salaried position with flexible hours, some required nights and weekends, and the possibility of working remotely.  The position offers a competitive salary consummate with experience.
