Position Summary

The Stewardship team of the Oregon State University Foundation creates experiences, demonstrates impact, and builds communities that inspire alumni and friends to join OSU in making the world a better place. Reporting to the Senior Director of Stewardship, the Director of Stewardship works collaboratively across the Foundation and university to lead stewardship for donors in the 1868 Society, demonstrate appreciation, and illustrate the impact of their gifts.

The 1868 Society recognizes donors with cumulative, lifetime giving of $100,000 to $999,999 to Oregon State University. Named for the year in which the legislature passed OSU's charter, creating Oregon's first state-supported college, members of the 1868 Society carry on OSU's proud legacy through their philanthropy and help ensure an outstanding future for the university.

The successful candidate will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the first day of employment.

Work Location 

The work location for this position is the OSU Foundation Office in Corvallis, Oregon. The position will also be expected to occasionally travel to off-site locations during evenings and weekends to connect with donors.

The Foundation offers a program called Core Work Days, a hybrid approach combining remote and in-office work days. Unless traveling for work, Foundation employees are in office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and work remotely, if preferred, on Monday and Friday.
Key Partners

The key partners for this position are:

  • Members of the OSUF Marketing and Communications team, Finance and Gift Accounting team, and Advancement Services team
  • Development officers and development assistants, including the Gift Planning team
  • Coordinators and advancement staff on campus, particularly in the deans’ offices

Measures of Success

  • Demonstrates philanthropic impact to donors through both customized and segmented approaches, providing a baseline of stewardship to all 1868 Society members
  • Ensure all donors of $500K-$999K receive a customized annual stewardship touchpoint
  • Ensure all donors with revocable bequests of $250K+ receive a customized annual stewardship touchpoint
  • Members of the 1868 Society express satisfaction with their recognition and stewardship, as measured by donor input and surveys

Major Duties 

Develop segmented stewardship activities and provide concierge service for this group of donors, including serving as point of contact for donor inquiries.

In collaboration with development units, determine stewardship activities for the Foundation’s highest level 1868 Society donors, with special emphasis on donors whose major giving is through estate commitments.

Maintain a portfolio of select unmanaged 1868 Society members, with emphasis on donors with revocable bequests.

Work with campus partners and OSUF Marketing and Communications team to develop meaningful reports, videos, and other demonstrations of philanthropic impact to 1868 Society donors.

Ensure all 1868 Society coding is current and correct so that donors are appropriately recognized.

Review lists of new 1868 members/levels and ensure welcome letters are sent and salutations for CEO are updated.

Oversee lists for Harris, 1868, and major gift donor newsletters from CEO and other central leadership. Oversee preparation of the annual Honor Roll of donors.

Assist with planning and staffing donor events to steward donors. Coordinate campus visits for select members of the 1868 Society.

Coordinate and oversee outreach from the Foundation and university for key donors’ milestone life events (birthdays, get well wishes, etc.); assess and determine appropriate mementos.

Provide input and support with annual award nominations involving 1868 Society members.

Develop a stewardship toolkit and templates for use by Foundation colleagues and campus partners.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and five years of professional experience in stewardship or donor relations field. Experience and educational equivalencies considered.
