About the Role

The Director of Resource Development (DRD) will lead the organization’s fundraising efforts. The DRD, a member of the Senior Leadership Team, oversees the organization’s fundraising needs, including donor relations and grants management. With a focus on expanding the donor pipeline, the DRD will create and implement fundraising plans and strategies, and establish an ongoing major gifts program for corporate and individual donors to sustain and support DBEDC’s future growth. Reporting to the CEO, the DRD will make direct individual and institutional giving solicitations, support the CEO’s donor cultivation work, and implement systems and best practices to optimize the donor experience and measure progress toward goals.

What you can expect to do in the role:

Strategy and Planning

  • Serve as a member of the organization’s leadership team to help guide the overall direction and implementation of the organization’s strategic goals
  • Work with the CEO to develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies and plans to include corporate, foundation, and individual giving and grants to meet ambitious yet achievable fundraising goals of $3.5M annually
  • Analyze and measure the progress towards the fundraising goals and evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising campaigns, reporting on progress to the CEO and other members of the leadership team
  • Research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position DBEDC to maximize opportunities and plan ahead of major funding changes or trends

Donor Relations and Solicitation

  • Manage the cultivation, solicitation, and stewarding process for a portfolio of major gift donors (gifts of $1,000 to $100,000+) and support the CEO in their individual donor work
  • Initiate, develop, and advance proposals to prospective donors
  • Communicate with donors about the DBEDC mission, the greatest needs of the organization, and the way in which their financial contributions are being utilized
  • Oversee annual appeal with the goal of increasing annual donors and revenue
  • Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical and data analysis to CEO and senior leadership team to inform solicitations

Foundations and Corporate Sponsorships

  • Secure grants for the organization and manage foundation relations
  • Develop corporate sponsorship opportunities, and secure sponsorships

Team Leadership

  • Coach, motivate, recruit, develop, and train resource development team members including a Grants Manager, Donor Relations Manager, interns, and volunteers
  • Lead the board Resource Development Committee with the committee chair
  • Stay up to date on nonprofit fundraising trends and best practices

Relationship Building and Visibility

  • Develop and maintain relationships in affordable housing, community development, economic development, business, and philanthropic communities
  • Collaborate with the Chief of Staff to capitalize on opportunities in community relations, speaking engagements, fundraising events, and communication tools like newsletters and social media platforms to reach donors and sponsors
  • Provide leadership for planning and implementing DBEDC’s annual fundraiser, ribbon-cuttings, and other donor engagement events

Systems Building and Project Management

  • Develop fundraising frameworks and systems that can be utilized across the organization with an eye toward efficiency, quality, and effectiveness
  • Support in the development of the life cycle of donor management, including leveraging systems and the pipeline renewal process
  • Oversee departmental processes for donor outreach through Salesforce
  • Guide the development of tracking systems in the CRM for solicitation, moves management, and expected revenue; support the development of systems to analyze giving data

­­Qualifications

You’ll do well in this role if you:

  • Have a minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Can demonstrate skills in development, gift solicitation, donor relations, and grant writing.
  • Understand the community DBEDC serves and commitment to practicing racial equity.
  • Have three or more years’ experience supervising, motivating, and mentoring staff, interns, or volunteers.
  • Have experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting fundraising data.
  • Have relevant experience developing and managing budgets, as well as writing grants and reports.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to influence, communicate and build relationships.
  • Must be an entrepreneurial and engaging leader with the gravitas and humility to compliment and engender the respect, rapport, and credibility of the CEO, staff, board, peers, and funders.

  • Have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have excellent computer skills, including spreadsheet, word-processing, CRMs, and ability to learn new technologies.
  • Can work occasional evening or weekend hours as needed to support activities needed outside of regular business hours.
  • Can work at physical locations and have the ability to travel.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check

It would be additionally phenomenal if you: 

  • Verbally and written fluency in Cape Verdean Kriolu, Haitian Creole, Spanish, or Vietnamese is highly desired.
  • Familiarity with the Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) program or similar programs
  • Experience developing and implementing a major gifts program and planned giving
  • Experience with event planning
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM

  • Salary range: $100,000 - $120,000.
