Position Description

The Director of Lower School Enrollment will take a leadership role in presenting Baldwin to students and families expressing interest in the Early Childhood Center and Lower School. A member of a highly productive enrollment team, the Director will develop initiatives that generate interest from qualified families and will then facilitate the application and enrollment process for new students as well as the reenrollment of current Baldwin students.  The successful candidate will also participate in the planning and execution of all recruitment and enrollment events hosted on and off-campus. This position requires exceptional communication skills, a dedication to customer service, and the motivation to join a highly collaborative, goal-oriented team.

Essential Functions

Enrollment & Retention

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for interested families pursuing enrollment in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Grades 1-5. Lead prospective families through the enrollment process, cultivate and convert students from inquiry through to enrollment at Baldwin.
  • The Director will develop strategies and tactics to generate interest from qualified families to achieve annual enrollment goals for the Lower School. Demonstrated experience establishing interest in new markets is a plus.
  • Actively identify, pursue and establish relationships with families, feeder schools, educational consultants and other constituencies in local and regional markets.
  • Partner with Manager of Enrollment Events and Student Visit Experience to support the planning, execution and assessment of on and off-campus enrollment events.
  • Organize tours and visitations for interested students and families. Provide guided tours of campus for visiting students and parents.
  • Represent Baldwin at on and off-campus events, school fairs and receptions.
  • Availability nights and weekends for events and communication with families is expected.
  • Partner with Lower School, Middle School and Upper School Directors and campus-wide stakeholders to develop retention strategies and enrollment programming. The Director is responsible for the reenrollment of students within the Lower School.

Admissions Committee

  • Lead Lower School Admission Committee meetings.
  • Assess student applications, conduct testing and interviews with prospective candidates and families.
  • Effectively collaborate with the Manager of Enrollment Operations to oversee the creation and maintenance of admission and financial aid files.

Professional Competency

  • Maintain strong knowledge and understanding of academic, extra-curricular and personal development opportunities offered at Baldwin.
  • Maintain understanding of educational trends through participation in NAIS, ADVIS and other professional associations.
  • Develop and foster a spirit of cooperation, creativity and collaboration among staff and faculty to accomplish common goals.
  • Desire to grow and perform other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in admissions, education or other related field required.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and set priorities to achieve goals.
  • Confidence speaking professionally and effectively in small/large groups and with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Early childhood, elementary education, sales, public relations experiences helpful. Comfort engaging in sales-oriented communication.
  • Strong organizational skills; attentive to detail.
  • A demonstrated commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of high profile work.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a cooperative, team-focused work atmosphere in a student-centered environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and various student information system technologies. Experience with Blackbaud preferred.

Physical Effort/Environment:

  • General office and campus environment.  Duties require employee to interact with students, parents, faculty, staff, and other internal and external constituencies.  Sitting, walking, standing, bending, twisting and occasional lifting required.  Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion necessary.
