Description

TorchLight Hire is seeking a uniquely qualified individual to join a growing DC-based global non-profit that is tackling some of the world’s most challenging health and social problems using science-backed data.  This role – a Director of Health Programs will have a rich background and subject matter expertise in public health.  The Director of Health will lead strategy, management, and execution of the entire an assigned portfolio of health initiatives and create new opportunities based on deep knowledge of the field.

Qualified applicants must be in the Washington D.C. or Baltimore metro areas. On-site work will be required when offices reopen; candidates located outside of these areas only considered if willing to relocate. Candidates must have U.S. citizenship or a permanent residency card in the U.S. to be an eligible candidate for this opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead organization’s portfolio through strategic, managerial, and technical guidance of new and existing initiatives, consistently offering new approaches and ideas
  • Define growth path for new programs in the US, UK, and low- and middle- income countries
  • Develop annual initiative plans, programmatic metrics, and budgets and ensure outstanding execution of all initiatives
  • Conceptualize and lead development and testing of innovative data tools as well as innovative modalities for data collection and analysis
  • Build strong and long-lasting relationships with other public and private sector partners - including donors, government and private sector partners, and other data providers
  • Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert assigned health areas and represent them in high profile conferences, meetings, and expert panels
  • Work closely with the Director of Communications to develop communications material including briefs, reports, and publications
  • Mentor and support other colleagues within the organization
  • Support/lead the hiring of additional talent as needed

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience of working in the public health sector, ideally in both global and domestic (US) settings; 5+ years of working in the field on programs in low resource settings and working closely with governments and other relevant program partners
  • Deep subject matter knowledge in the area of public health including understanding of major players, funding landscape, global/domestic agenda, and scientific literature
  • Track record of building and using data, data platforms, and new approaches to drive social impact
  • Excellent project management skills including managing work plans, budgets, partners, and grants/contracts
  • Excellent relationship and partner management skills including proven track record of building relationships and working in a challenging multi-stakeholder environment
  • Experience designing and scoping new programs, initiatives, and partnerships
  • Experience in leading and designing implementation research
  • Experience or familiarity with field data collection and research and quantitative analysis  methods (including statistical methods and modelling)
