Description

Position Summary

The Director of Finance engages the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors on the company’s execution of its strategic plan, annual and long-range financial planning, and monthly financial reporting and analysis. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Finance partners closely with the leadership team, providing financial leadership and management, to support Paterson Habitat’s fiscal operations and financial strength.

The Director of Finance leads day-to-day fiscal operations, and organization-wide financial planning, monitoring, and analysis (including budgeting, forecasting, audit, and compliance with the Company’s accounting policies, procedures & controls, supporting organizational development and the mitigation of financial risks).

 

Responsibilities

  • Oversees month-end close, completed by the Senior Accountant
  • Leads annual audit process, Form 990 certification, insurance, and compliance
  • Leads cash flow planning, modeling, projections, and corrective actions if needed
  • Builds, and leads by example, a consultative and collaborative finance team which effectively and efficiently supports cross functional efforts. Leads with a vision for continuous improvement and development of the finance function.
  • Leads finance support for real estate transactions, grant applications, grant reimbursements and funding compliance, maintaining compliance calendar to track deadlines
  • Keeps apprised of, investigates, and engages with strategic financing opportunities, including but not limited to government funding, government and private partnership funding, and similar opportunities
  • Leads deal structuring and compliance for New Market Tax Credit & similar transactions
  • Administers 401(K) plan, reviews payroll and Form 941 quarterly reconciliations
  • Manages mortgage portfolio and supports endowment fund managers
  • Develops annual budget in coordination with the Chief Executive Officer, and functional leads, leads the budget presentation to Board of Directors for approval, and confirms approved department-level budgets with functional leads
  • Meets with functional leads to review monthly budget-to-actuals financial reports, prepared by Senior Accountant, and reviews the projections from functional leads for each department, supporting continuous improvement in forecast accuracy
  • Reviews, monitors, and analyzes budget-to-actual and projection-to-actual parameters, to lead and support continued financial strength, and stewardship Assesses and reports on organization's financial activities and position, providing monthly, accurate and timely financial reports and executive-level summary to the Chief Executive Officer, Board Committees and Board, and fellow team leads

 

  • Serves as the staff liaison and lead of Paterson Habitat’s volunteer-based finance committee, and audit committee
  • Formulates and leads implementation of sound fiscal policies, procedures & controls, including a Finance and Accounting Procedures Manual. Oversee the development of and modifications to financial technology systems and monitor adherence to control policies, for timely identification and mitigation of issues
  • Liaise with the auditors, bankers, consultants, and other external stakeholders
  • Other special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, and ideally with CPA accreditation
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant, progressive work experience, 6+ years of finance & accounting experience, strongly preferred. Non profit experience a plus
  • Supervisory experience, required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP as applied to nonprofit accounting, required
  • Skill in financial management, planning, accounting, audit prep, and compliance
  • Experience with grants management and compliance strongly preferred
  • Experience with construction financing and accounting strongly preferred
  • Experience in QBO, Salesforce, project management and e-pay systems, a plus

Salary Range

$100,000 - $110,000
