Newark Youth Career Pathways

Position Type: Full-time, exempt

Overview
Newark Youth Career Pathways is a program of the Newark Alliance. We convene a network of youth workforce providers, schools, and industry partners to synchronize year-round supports that prepare and expose youth to in-demand career pathways. By expanding on Newark’s Summer Youth Employment model and partner schools’ career and technical education vision for post-secondary development, NYCP seeks to guide the majority of Newark youth to make more successful post-secondary decisions.

The Director of Development will be an essential member of the NYCP team during this second year of operation and into the future. As NYCP’s development and fundraising leader, the Director will work closely with key organizational leaders, board members, and other stakeholders to set NYCP’s overarching development strategy, create essential systems for fundraising and donor management, and cultivate and manage relationships with a variety of prospective funders, donors, and partners.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Create a comprehensive, long-term development strategy that will be achievable for NYCP but will also scale effectively as the organization plans for growth
  • Collaborate with NYCP leaders and key stakeholders like the Mayor’s Office to position the organization in the Newark youth development, youth workforce, and career/technical education ecosystem through a collective impact approach
  • Manage and/or execute grant proposal generation and other writing for prospective government and foundation funders
  • Manage and/or execute cultivation of a diversified portfolio of individual donors and donor cultivation strategies
  • Manage and/or execute campaigns, events, and other fundraising activities aligned to NYCP’s development strategy
  • Leverage consultants and other support to shape and effectively communicate the NYCP story and brand
  • Build the capacity of NYCP leaders to serve as the face of the organization and support them in telling a compelling story about the NYCP mission, vision, and programs
  • ● Serve as the primary leader of NYCP’s emerging and future development team including relevant consultants and vendors

 

Education, Skills, & Other Qualifications

The Director must share a passion for NYCP’s mission to convene a network of youth workforce providers, schools, and industry partners to synchronize year-round supports that prepare and expose youth to in-demand career pathways to guide the majority of Newark youth to thriving wage careers. The Director must also share NYCP’s core values of cross-sector collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to positive outcomes for young people. Beyond that, strong candidates for this role will possess a combination of the following competencies and qualifications:

  • A track record of developing comprehensive development strategy, from lead generation and donor cultivation through ongoing relationship management
  • Experience with various aspects of development and fundraising including individual giving, events and campaigns, foundations and other private grantmaking, and local, state, and federal funding
  • Experience effectively managing a team towards results and demonstrated capacity to work with a high degree of autonomy while making judgment calls about how to best leverage team members, vendors, and other personnel resources
  • Enthusiasm for new initiatives and startup environments, entrepreneurial mindset, and adaptability
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop or refine processes related to the development process
  • A track record of effective management of complex partnerships; Experience with collective impact, network, or field-building organizations preferred
  • Insight into youth workforce development funding and/or the Newark or New Jersey nonprofit funding landscape preferred
  • Experience collaborating with marketing consultants, graphic designers, and other vendors to tell a compelling story about an organization, initiative, or program preferred

 

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $100,000 to $120,000. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s region’s cost of labor, qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside the range shown. Newark Youth Career Pathways/Newark Alliance offers a comprehensive benefits package as part of compensation.
