Description

SF New Deal is looking for an experienced and dynamic fundraiser and marketing manager to join our team as Director of Development & Marketing (D&M). The Director of D&M will lead us in securing philanthropic and government resources across multiple markets (local, state, national) to support small businesses, workers and San Francisco residents, advancing equity in our city.

Overview

Our Mission: SF New Deal provides supportive services and financial opportunities for small businesses in San Francisco. We work to address both the symptoms and root causes of inequity by building pathways which connect local business owners, workers, community leaders, and neighbors in need, for the benefit of the entire city.

____

Our Story: SF New Deal is an innovative nonprofit born out of the Covid-19 pandemic. Launched in March 2020, we quickly evolved from a volunteer-led emergency relief response, into a resourced 501c3 with a team of 18 working together to address some of the City’s most persistent and intractable challenges.

Our first program model used private funds to purchase meals from local restaurants and deliver them to food insecure San Franciscans through a network of partnerships with long-serving Community Based Organizations already working with impacted communities. We were then awarded three community feeding contracts in partnership with the City of San Francisco’s Department of Disability and Aging Services (DAS) and the City’s Human Services Agency (HSA).

In addition to our direct service work, we offer consulting services and launch pilot programs to support other high impact efforts to advance equity and lower barriers to access capital and resources.

Our team is a group of kind, collaborative, and hardworking generalists that are driven by a shared desire to catalyze lasting impact. In just 16 months, we have seen what’s possible, working together with a sense of purpose and urgency. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Disbursing $30 M in financial relief and revenue to 600+ local small businesses
  • Delivering over 2.5 million meals for food insecure San Franciscans
  • Building trusted relationships across city agencies, community leaders, small businesses, residents, and long serving neighborhood coalitions.
  • Making recommendations to public and private partners about how to increase food access and food equity to underserved neighbors.
  • Launching pilot programs to support San Francisco small businesses being great places to work.

We’re just getting started and would love for you to join us in building a new model of community care!

__________

About the Role

The Director of Development & Marketing will be responsible for leading our organization’s development efforts: identifying and pursuing public and private funding opportunities, setting annual goals, managing fundraising and marketing budgets, initiating development strategies and campaigns (including Giving Tuesday, end of year fundraising asks), engaging prospects, managing pipelines, closing gifts and executing high quality cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship processes, while working cross functionally with the executive team, finance, marketing, and service operations to lead communication and reporting, including the creation of our annual report.

The Director of D&M will collaborate with and directly manage SF New Deal’s Social Media Manager & Designer to lead campaign strategy and supervise asset and content creation. As necessary, the Director of D&M will also engage with and manage a freelance grant writer to ensure that we are able to effectively apply for and secure funding from grants and government contracts. The person in this role will be responsible for maintaining our funder database and reporting to support those goals and build relationships with philanthropic partners across major gifts and corporate giving channels.

The ideal candidate for this position will leverage demonstrated fundraising skills (a successful track record of raising in excess of $1 million in private funds annually or being awarded multi-million dollar government grants or contracts), marketing strategy experience, leadership abilities, relationships in the Bay Area’s philanthropic landscape, and will effectively build rapport with our team, our supporters, and with the external stakeholders with whom our organization partners. We welcome dynamic leadership styles and an outcomes-oriented approach to development.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Location: San Francisco, CA. We are a remote organization that works from home but would prefer a candidate that calls the Bay Area home and is familiar with the local philanthropic and business landscape.
