Description

The Director of Development is responsible for oversight, planning and implementation of a comprehensive philanthropy program that secures significant financial resources from current and prospective donors. S/he will develop and implement a multi-year philanthropic vision and plan. Partnering with the Executive Director, Marketing Manager, and Events Coordinator, s/he will facilitate the largest possible gifts for RMHC Jacksonville’s priorities.

The Director of Development will work on a variety of activities which may include providing program information to prospects, drafting correspondence and acknowledgements, using the fundraising management system (Raiser’s Edge) to update donor information, producing reports, performing analyses, and tracking and cultivating donors. S/he will have the capability of closing 5 and 6 figure gifts with a fundraising target of meeting and/or exceeding operational expenses. S/he reports to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with the ED to establish fundraising goals, providing fundraising perspective to long-term strategic planning and fiscal management.

S/he understands and complies with all RMHC gift-related policies and procedures and ensures ethical compliance, as defined by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and at least 10 years of professional fundraising experience.
• Proven experience developing and executing fundraising strategies.
• Experience asking for and closing 5 to 6-figure gifts.
• Experience working with current and evolving trends in charitable giving, including capital campaigns, endowment campaigns, major gifts, and planned giving.
• Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents such as individual donors, foundation advisors, and corporations.
• Experience with and strong knowledge of Raiser’s Edge.
• Experience in successful collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.
• The capacity to embrace and effectively communicate to the local community RMHC’s mission and the organization’s impact.
• Knowledge of and experience working in the philanthropic climate of Jacksonville, Northeast Florida.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to easily connect with others and to effectively collaborate.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Develop, monitor and manage comprehensive annual fundraising plan.
2. Responsible for leading sponsorship acquisition for relevant fundraising events.
3. Increase giving through solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship of existing donors and development of new donors through prospecting and research.
4. Oversee and expand major giving and planned giving programs.
5. Direct and oversee the management of the Chapter’s donor database (Raiser’s Edge).
6. Provide training and resources and to support and encourage board-driven fundraising efforts.
7. Work with Executive Director to manage his/her portfolio of donors for highest possible return.
8. Work with Executive Director to maximize his/her role in donor cultivation and solicitation.
9. Develop resources and tools to support the Board of Directors, Executive Director, key staff, and other volunteers to identify and solicit major gifts.
10. Oversee the operations of the development department including:
a. Managing the department budget.
b. Recognition and stewardship of all donors.
c. Maximizing the use of donor database and provide reports.
d. Participating in strategic planning, management meetings and training sessions.
11. Collaborate in achieving successful outcomes and growth of fundraising events.
