The Director of Development will be responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with individuals, foundations, government grants, and corporate sponsors, with a focus on securing support from donors who are capable of making gifts for general operating and special projects. The successful candidate will carry a portfolio of approximately 100 highly rated donors and prospects.
More specifically, the Development Director will: 1) create and implement strategies for solicitation that will grow annual revenue from individuals and institutional fundraising streams; 2) lead and coordinate corporate and foundations fundraising efforts, as required; 3) supervise the Development Officer and Membership Coordinator; 4) work collaboratively with other program areas to advance PFS’ fundraising goals.
Reports to: Executive Director
- Identify, cultivate, and manage a robust individual giving prospect list to develop and expand funding relationships, ensure effective cultivation strategies and solicitation plans to enhance PFS’ contributed revenue.
- Work closely with Executive Director and Board of Directors to shape and implement short and long-term fundraising strategies, goals, and action plans.
- Prepare grant requests and requisite budgets as required. Conduct research on individuals, foundations, and corporations to identify opportunities for support.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with current and prospective institutional donors by managing the portfolio of institutional donors and prospects which include corporations, foundations, charitable trusts, and other institutional entities.
- Develop annual budget and regularly monitor progress against goals to meet or exceed revenue targets. Deliver activity reports on departmental activities for the staff, board, and related committees.
- Create cultivation opportunities for PFS members and donors throughout the year via screenings and other activities for engagement.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of events to ensure exceptional experience with a focus on cultivation and stewardship.
- Oversee the Membership program; create and execute acquisition and retention strategies.
- Manage Development and Membership department staff including training and growth opportunities. Ensure accountability of all team members. Implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure that accurate and complete records of donor communications are kept.
- Represent PFS at external events and function as required and develop relationships with partners to support organizational positioning.
- Work with Marketing team to develop strategies for development presence in all communications and marketing.
- Assume other tasks and responsibilities as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- At least 5 years experience in fundraising with a track record in securing individual gifts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven management experience, ability to lead a team through multiple projects with strict deadlines.
- Familiarity with donor database systems required.
