Location: Remote, quarterly travel required

 About BYP100

Founded in 2013, BYP100 (Black Youth Project 100) is a member-based organization of Black youth activists creating justice and freedom for all Black people. We are building a network focused on transformative leadership development, direct action organizing, advocacy, and education.

Our work is generally centered on ending systems of anti-Blackness and emphasizing the urgency of protecting folks living on the margins of society. As of 2022, BYP100 is a unionized workplace with BYP100 Workers United.

This position is a non-bargaining unit position and is not represented by the Chicago and Midwest Regional Board, Workers United.

About the Director of Culture
We're looking for a passionate organizer with experience in developing political education programs, training, and facilitation to join the BYP100 staff team. Our ideal candidate is in love and in alignment with BYP100's mission and is ready to join a dynamic team to help coordinate our political education infrastructure.

This position works closely with the National Co-Director and Political Education Committee to create and implement BYP100’s strategies and tactics around our leadership development work. They will also directly coordinate those supporting our political education series.

Key Responsibilities

Chapter and Membership Building

  • Designing and implementing strategies to engage, recruit, and retain active members - including skills and development plans
  • Designing and implementing strategies to move chapters to healthy, active status
  • Support chapters with campaign development and implementation

International Coalition Building

  • Designing strategy for an international coalition with the goal of base building and solidarity campaign strategy
  • Identifying partners in international locations to serve as international delegates to build a sustained international coalition
  • Designing an international solidarity convening biannually with international partners to build a campaign or support an existing one

National Convening

  • Liaise between national leadership and membership to build a responsive NatCon plan
  • Coordination with the Convening Conjurers to set and execute NatCon strategy including program and outcomes
  • Lead logistics including travel, accommodation, merchandise, and meals
  • Lead evaluation of NatCon including pre and post survey and any qualitative demonstration of impact including internal media and a formal membership debrief in consultation with Convening Conjurers

Land and Liberation

Cultural Production

  • Maintain the current artist collective with members and support outcomes including a digital zine and Black Life Everywhere in local chapters
  • Lead a multi-year strategy of engagement of the Black Joy Experience assets including Black Joy Experience Vol. 1 + 2 and Black Joy Experience docuseries

Salary & General Benefits (begin on first day of employment)

  • Salary: $86,000 - $95,000[1]
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • BYP100 pays 100% of employer-sponsored medical and dental insurance for employees and their dependents, as well as premiums for short-term disability and a $50,000 life insurance policy for the employee.

Tech Allowance: BYP100 provides a technology allowance $50 per pay period/up to $1200 per year for part-time employees to help offset telephone, internet, and other small out of pocket tech costs. This will be considered a fringe benefit and these monies will be taxed.

[1] BYP100 is undergoing a salary study and the final salary range may increase.
