Overview: The Director of Christian Education will nurture, guide and support the spiritual development of youth from Pre-School through Confirmation. The Director will oversee all church school programs, working with the Pastor to incorporate children into worship, and working with other teams to incorporate children into the life and mission of our church.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinates weekly volunteer teaching staffing and nursery care.
• Prepares registration, attendance, and promotional material.
• Develops child-friendly programming as part of special activities such as Rally Day, Church Fair, and Scituate Heritage Days.
• Submits annual report and annual budget.
• Is present and visible most Sunday mornings to greet families and administer CE programs.
• Is the primary Staff Support for the Christian Education Ministry Team.
• Coordinates Christian Education programs with the church’s master calendar and programming.
• Facilitates age appropriate Mission & Outreach activities.
• Orders and maintains CE supplies.
• Attends meetings of staff, CE Team, and other meetings as invited.
• Assists the Pastor with Confirmation classes, as requested.
• Lead periodic intergenerational worship with input from the pastor.
Works in conjunction with the Christian Education Ministry Team to:
• Inspire, recruit, and train a robust group of teachers and volunteers.
• Conduct annual evaluations of teachers, programs, and curricula.
• Plan and review annual budget with CE Ministry Team.
• Promote Christian Education to the congregation and community through newsletters, the church website, social media, local media, etc.
• Ensure that all Christian Education programs and personnel are operating under Safe Church policy.
• Welcome new families and assist in connecting them with the Pastor and the Christian Education and nursery programs, as appropriate.
• Maintain Christian Education records (including registration, attendance, CORI forms).
Qualifications:
• Must display spiritual and emotional maturity.
• Should have prior experience and demonstrated success teaching children (ideally with background in Christian ministries or elementary education).
• Must be creative and a self-starter; team player with a positive attitude.
• Must possess strong organizational, teaching, and administrative skills.
• Prior experience in recruiting, leading, and managing volunteers a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, leaders, and volunteers a must.
• Should have strong communication skills including public speaking.
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
Supervisor: The Director of Christian Education reports directly to the Pastor.
Employment Hours: The position requires 15 hours per week Sept-June and an average of 8 hours per week in July and August.
Time Off: Determined by the policy as defined in the Personnel Handbook.
Compensation: The Annual Salary will be based upon mutual agreement between the Church Council and the person holding the position.
Church Safety Policy: In keeping with our Church’s Safety Policy, the Director of Christian Education’s initial and continued employment is contingent upon a satisfactory Criminal Records (CORI) report, and the Director of Christian Education agrees to abide by FTCC’s Safety Policies.
