Description

Organization Overview

The REFORM Alliance exists to dramatically reduce the number of people who are unjustly under the control of the criminal justice system – starting with probation and parole. To win, we aim to change laws and policies, and simultaneously, change the nationwide narrative around criminal justice reform.

REFORM’s founding partners include award-winning recording artist Meek Mill; Philadelphia 76ers co-owner and Fanatics executive chairman Michael Rubin; philanthropist and attorney Laura Arnold; entrepreneur and business mogul Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter; Kraft Group CEO and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft; Brooklyn Nets co-owner and philanthropic investor Clara Wu Tsai; Third Point LLC CEO and founder Daniel S. Loeb; Galaxy Digital CEO and founder Michael E. Novogratz; Vista Equity Partners founder, chairman, and CEO Robert F. Smith. CNN host and activist Van Jones is the CEO.

Position Overview

The Director of Business Development will lead an ambitious effort to prospect, cultivate, and activate corporate partners and brands in support of REFORM’s creative, content, media, and special events strategy. She/he will have a primary objective of securing financial and in-kind support to ensure our team has the adequate resources to popularize the REFORM brand, educate the American public about criminal justice reform, and inspire meaningful action. We envision the director will work very closely with the content, communications, and creative teams to drive ‘mission demand’ through activating partnerships that force multiply REFORM’s creative and storytelling assets reaching a wider audience. She/he will also seek financial support or ‘sponsorship’ for REFORM’s signature event(s) and initiatives that aim to provide a meaningful experience for our network of investors. In addition, the director will work with corporate prospects and partners to explore cause marketing, employee giving, and corporate match programs.

The director will play an important, externally facing sales and account management role by cultivating and managing key business relationships. She/he will also have opportunities to liaise with board members, investors, influencers, and other important stakeholders to engage them in supporting the business development objectives. Ultimately, the more successful the director is, the more opportunities REFORM will have to reach a diverse set of audiences and inspire more Americans to care about criminal justice reform.

Specifically, in the first 6-12 months, the senior director will focus on the following goals and objectives:

  • Designing a business development strategy in support of REFORM’s creative, content, media, and special events strategy;
  • Secure 1-2 major partners/sponsors for REFORM’s national signature campaign;
  • Secure a major sponsor for a TBD signature event and/or convening;
  • Identify and cultivate potential partners for a TBD signature and other content initiatives;
  • With input from senior staff and board members, form a perspective on how REFORM can advocate for more private sector leadership within criminal justice reform;
  • Build a portfolio of corporate partners that support a TBD fund that supports the criminal justice reform ecosystem (concepts in development)

Skills and Qualifications

The director will ideally have 7-10 years or more of business development experience, preferably within the media or NGO sectors and a proven track record of securing financial partnerships, advertising revenue, and/or brand sponsorships. She/he must be able to articulate and develop the assets needed for ‘pitching’ corporate partners and have persuasive presentation skills to compel corporate leadership at the highest levels. She/he will also possess a savvy and modern understanding of the media and content distribution landscape, trends in social and digital media, and what partners are best positioned to support REFORM’s objective to get more Americans engaged in our mission.
