Description

Position:  Director of Artistic Planning

Location:  Portland Opera’s Hampton Opera Center, just south of OMSI in Portland Oregon

*In-office position

ARE YOU PASSIONATE AND INTRIGUED BY? 

  • Artistic management?
    • Hire singers and other artists
    • Disseminate casting needs and manage communication with artist managers throughout the engagement period
    • Identify & recommend potential singers for future productions
  • Mainstage operations?
    • Determine and communicate specific musical needs for each production
    • Ensure musical matters identified by visiting conductors and stage directors are addressed in a timely manner
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of AFM and AGMA work rules
  • Contracting, administration and financial oversight?
    • Prepare department budgets for all programs and activities
    • Prepare forecast projections throughout the fiscal year
    • Serve as committee member for all artist union relations and negotiations (AGMA, AFM)

 

 REQUIRED SKILLS: 

  • Graduate degree or beyond work in Music and/or Music Administration
  • Demonstrated strong management and leadership skills
  • Ability to delegate appropriately to department and contracted staff
  • Thorough understanding of opera repertoire and production
  • Effective budgeting, cost management and financial tracking skills
  • Understanding of human resource principles, particularly in a union environment
  • Microsoft Excel - intermediate or about skill level

  • Compensation Structure: This position offers an exempt salary of $85,000 + per year, dependent on experience, with the below benefits:
