The Century Foundation (TCF), a progressive, independent think tank, seeks a Development Officer that will prospect for institutional funding, write Letters of Inquiry, organize our grants database, maintain donor data systems and gift entry, generate and run reports, organize files, run our end of year campaign, assist with special events and support the development team in fulfilling its annual fundraising plan.

This is an ideal position for an organized individual skilled at grant writing, prospecting, and data management who has experience in fundraising or who is eager to learn and grow their skill set. This position reports to the Vice President of Development and is a member of the Operations Team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Vice President of Development with grants management, from prospecting and LOIs to moves management. Through events and appeals, this role will support the team in engaging, cultivating and soliciting both institutional and corporate donors
  • Assist the Deputy Director of Development with administrative and logistical tasks that support all fundraising initiatives including data entry, moves management, grants management, special events, individual donor and foundation research, gift processing, coordinating appeals and data management
  • Research all prospective donors and institutional funders using wealth engine (iWave), Foundation Directory Online or other resources and creating and maintaining profiles

PROSPECT RESEARCH and DATABASE MANAGEMENT

  • Provide in-depth institutional research for the teams on a weekly basis.
  • Utilizing research tools to align our work with the funders and come up with pitching templates to apply to cold prospects.
  • Reviewing day-to-day donor entries in the organizational database and Asana to keep all revenues on track
  • Reviewing the donations and prepare event invitations, solicitations, and acknowledgement letters and other development correspondence that the Development Associate prepares
  • Reconcile with the finance team on all funds received on a weekly basis
  • Coordinate logistics for day-to-day fundraising activities, maintain accurate donor records and mailing lists; run mail merges, and ensure that deadlines are being met
  • Work with the Next100 team on processing donations and maintaining their donorbase

EVENT PLANNING

  • In coordination with the Communications team, plan all TCF Development events, reach out to prospective and current donors, report back and update files
  • Provide the Vice President of Development with regular progress reports and updates on all projects
  • Maintain board files and information related to by-laws, new member packets, bios, board contact sheets, board contact lists, etc.
  • Assist with organizing meetings and distributing agendas and related materials
  • Back-up the Development Associate and other staff, as needed
  • Responsible for travel bookings and arrangements for all staff as needed
  • Other duties, as required

 

Qualifications

  • BA or equivalent required; 5-7 years of work experience in development preferred
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written, organizational and communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail, and willingness to learn new skills or techniques
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office and Google Suite is a must; experience with a project management system and Macs are a plus
  • Ability to think and work quickly and efficiently, and proactively communicate effectively with team
  • Experience with data management software is a must. Knowledge of Airtable or the ability to learn basic database administration is a plus
  • Solid ethics and discretion with sensitive material
  • Willingness to be flexible, open-minded, and be a highly engaged team player
