AGENCY OVERVIEW

Founded in 1889, Felton Institute is the oldest nonsectarian, nonprofit charitable social-services provider in the City and County of San Francisco. Our mission is to respond to human needs with cutting-edge social services and treatments that combine the best social science research with cultural sensitivity, a deep respect for the consumer, and a commitment to social justice.

OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT

As part of Felton’s Administration Division, the small, but highly flexible Fund Development Department is responsible for stewarding the creation and implementation of the agency’s long-term development plan. The agency currently operates with an annual budget of $24 million, with a goal to increase that figure over the coming years. At this time Felton is predominantly funded through public contracts in behavioral health and other social services.

The Department supports the securing of public and private funding, the fund raising and relationship-building efforts of Felton’s Board of Directors, and the development of partnerships and collaborations that support the short and long-term strategic goals of the agency. These functions help ensure that Felton has the resources it needs to continue advancing its mission through the agency’s 50 programs across several divisions. Felton’s divisions include: Adult, Children, Youth, Family and Transitional Age Youth (CYFT), Early Psychosis, Senior, and Training and Research.

The Development Manager will be comfortable working with a wide range of program content in order to support programs that service children, TAY, families and individuals across the life-span, including in the realms of behavioral health, justice and street behavior, and senior services.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Manager is responsible for the day-to-day organization, management, and functioning of Felton’s Fund Development team. Services of the department include: overseeing and supporting the response process for public and private program-specific funding; collaborating with Felton program leadership to make strategic decisions to pursue funding and develop program designs; and working with Felton’s Board of Directors to support and encourage Director fund development and relationship-building efforts on behalf of Felton.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Development Manager will supervise a team of grant writers to achieve the goals and objectives of the department, growing the team as needed to address the agency’s fund development needs. The Development Manager will work with Felton’s Executive Leadership Team to develop and support the agency’s growth and strategic directions. The Manager will play an essential role in expanding Felton’s relationships within institutional funders, including with corporate, public and private charitable organizations, as well as individuals.

Day-to-day management of the fund development team will include supporting the selection of notices of funding to which Felton will respond, ensuring the implementation of the policies and procedures required to keep the department running smoothly, developing the skills of team members, and working with Division Directors and other staff to complete proposal packages. The Development Manager will serve as the staff member participant for the Board of Directors Development Committee, and work closely with the Chair of that committee. In addition, the Manager will collaborate with the Director of Communications to develop activities, materials, and events, as per the Fund Development plan.
