Description

The Development Director will design and implement a creative fundraising plan that maximizes revenue from foundation, government, corporate, and individual sources.  Particular focus will be on expanding the reach of Coyote’s fundraising to broaden its individual-donor base; raising the giving-levels of current donors; developing and implementing a plan to improve ongoing donor stewardship; and exploring strategies to increase cash-alternative giving through stock donations, DAF’s, RMD’s, and planned giving.

Because Coyote is committed to centering equity in all facets of the organization, the Development Director will embody the principles of Community-Centric Fundraising (CCF) in every donor communication,  fundraising campaign, and event.

  • Implement the annual plan with the support of the Giving Coordinator, Board, staff, and volunteers
  • Ensure that all donor communications, campaigns, and events are in alignment with Coyote’s mission and values and embrace CCF principles
  • Collaborate with Executive Director and Board in crafting a long-term development plan to ensure Coyote’s sustainability
  • Prepare and present to the Board of Directors quarterly reports on both short- and long-term progress of the fundraising plan

Individual Giving

  • Develop and maintain ongoing personal relationships with all major donors
  • Foster increased connection between Coyote and donors at every level
  • Cultivate new avenues of giving through stock donations, DAF’s, RMD’s, and planned giving
  • Oversee the Giving Coordinator’s recording of all donor and gift information in Salesforce
for Non-Profits and ensure that every donation is acknowledged in an appropriate and timely way
  • Develop strategies for year-round donor stewardship that are both efficient and effective and oversee their implementation in collaboration with the Giving Coordinator
  • Collaborate with the Communications Director to craft donor outreach infused with Coyote style
  • Cultivate the Board’s involvement in reaching out to potential donors and stewarding their continued participation

Foundation, Corporate, and Government Support

  • Connect with Coyote’s current foundation and corporate donors and work at sustaining and deepening those relationships
  • Maintain a yearly grant calendar with due dates for applications, reports, and all other grant-related requirements
  • Seek new opportunities for foundation support, especially by exploring multi-year gifts, capacity-building requests, and joint requests with fellow non-profits
  • Prepare and submit all grant applications and track the results
  • Collaborate with Program Director to ensure that all grants that are pursued align with both existing and planned programs and staff capacity
  • Manage grants received and all reporting to grantors with the assistance of the Giving Coordinator
  • Establish new and build on existing relationships with government entities and staff to raise Coyote’s profile at the city, county, and state level

Events

  • Think outside-the-box to develop radical new ideas for leveraging Coyote’s assets to create events that both raise funds and build community
  • Retool existing fundraising events to align with CCF principles through inclusive, community-building events that embody Coyote’s values and spirit
  • Draft and continue to refine a rubric that assesses any fundraising event for its costs (money, time, energy) and its rewards (money, community connection, goodwill, and new donors)
  • Analyze each event through the rubric in advance and then follow up with an assessment after-the-fact to measure its return on investment
  • Plan and oversee all fundraising events and implement them with the assistance of the Giving Coordinator, staff, Board, and volunteers
  • Serve as primary contact in engaging members of the board in the planning, prep, guest outreach, and hosting of all fundraising events
  • Lead a team of staff and volunteers in mounting Coyote’s annual gala, overseeing procurement of sponsorships, donor communications, procurement of auction items & art, and software management
