Description

The NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is the country’s first and foremost civil and human rights law organization. Founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, who subsequently became the first Black U.S. Supreme Court Justice, LDF was launched at a time when the nation’s aspirations for equality and due process of law were stifled by widespread state-sponsored racial inequality. From that era to the present, LDF’s mission has been transformative–to achieve racial justice, equality, and an inclusive society.

LDF’s litigation, policy advocacy, organizing, and public education programs in the substantive areas of criminal justice, economic justice, education and political participation seek to ensure the fundamental and basic human rights of all people to quality education, economic opportunity, the right to vote and fully participate in democracy, and the right to a fair and just judicial system.

LDF seeks an experienced Database Coordinator to process donor’s gift information, update constituent records, prepare acknowledgments, and provide general office/administrative support to the LDF Development Staff.

Beginning on March 7, 2022, LDF will transition to a hybrid work environment. Any candidate selected for this position should be prepared to work in the office location assigned at least two days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Handling the processing of all gifts received via lockbox, non-lockbox and online donations, which includes credit card processing and checks received in-house;
  • Enter and update donor/prospect information into Raiser’s Edge database on a regular basis with efficiency and accuracy;
  • Generate and distribute gift summary reports; and assist with weekly reconciliation of all donations received;
  • Prepare timely acknowledgments for donors who contributed via lockbox, non-lockbox, online gifts, memorials and other miscellaneous gifts;
  • Process mail edits, which includes changes of address on returned mail and research bad addresses;
  • Assist all other team members; i.e., Special Events, Foundation, Major Gift Officers, Direct Marketing with related gifts information retrieval;
  • Train temporary employees during the busy season on gift processing; and perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Database Manager;
  • Conduct biographical, financial and philanthropic research on individuals and/or institutional prospects and donors; and
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A college degree with relevant work experience;
  • Strong demonstrated experience using the Raiser’s Edge application;
  • Experience using general search engines, e.g., The Foundation Center, Lexis-Nexis, I-Wave, Google and other online databases;
  • Excellent research, organizational and oral and written communications skills;
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and/or with a team as dictated by projects;
  • Accuracy and attention to detail in written work and oral communications;
  • Proficiency with computers and Windows-based software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power-Point); and
  • Commitment to racial justice and civil rights.
