Controller

General Description

The Controller is responsible for implementing and maintaining accounting services, office operations, systems support, and equipment for the Trust.  The individual is encouraged to implement office automation and procedures that result in providing high quality delivery services to meet the organization’s needs.  The person serving in this position is expected to be well versed in all aspects of the Trust’s activities, and serves as the staff liaison to the Finance Committee.

Areas of Responsibility and Duties

Accounting Services - provide complete accounting system services and reporting for all aspects of the Trust’s activities:

-           Provide monthly financial reports to staff and board

-           Provide audit support service and documents to independent auditors

-           Review and process all accounts payable

-           Review and enter bi-monthly payroll entries

-           Review and post all deposits, invoices and set up receivables as applicable

-           Facilitate stock donation transactions

-           Monitor rates of investment vehicles

-           Provide reconciliation of accounts

-           Track grant funds

-           Assist Executive Director in preparation of annual Federal Indirect Cost Proposal

-           Track and account for all restricted funds and transactions

Insurance - act as the point person for the Trust in matters related to maintaining adequate levels of insurance for Trust activities and program services

Planning and budgeting – responsible for the planning and budgeting for Trust operations and administration as well as bringing together the organization’s complete annual budget for presentation to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.

Fixed Assets - Maintain records of acquisition, disposal and depreciation of Fixed Assets

Tax filing and governmental reporting - Prepare and/or review all required financial reporting including tax returns, SOI, sales taxes filings, property tax exemptions,

Other Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the approval process for all loans and lines of credit and other financial contracts, including leases.
  • Oversee the flow of cash and financial investments
  • Analyze information to assess current and future financial statuses
  • Support staff with any request for information.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer 2+ years’ experience in non-profit accounting and standard audit practice.  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
  • Knowledge of common banking practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure
