Description

The Content Specialist will play a pivotal role in developing content and implementing the Product team’s strategies across Everytown’s websites and support the growth of the Demand Action mobile app. The specialist will use data to inform their work and improve the visibility of our messages. Along with the Associate Director of Content, the specialist will ensure that Everytown’s digital products are accessible, inclusive, and empowering for our supporters. They will work closely with digital campaigners in the Digital team and report to the Associate Director of Content.

Content Creation & Production (40%)

  • Write, edit, and proofread web and app content
  • Complete web production tasks, including building landing pages, reports, and fact sheets on our websites
  • Collaborate across departments and manage processes to make content come to life
  • Maintain the freshness and coherence of our existing content, while keeping an eye on our web content’s lifespan
  • Support content on other channels as needed

Audience Development & Content Analysis (20%)

  • Work alongside the Digital team, growing our audience and increasing web and app engagement through our insights and SEO efforts
  • Develop a keyword strategy and conduct tests to improve traffic, engagement, and conversion
  • Establish and report on actionable metrics around the organization's content strategy and target audiences, including reach, retention, and engagement
  • Make SEO recommendations to staff writing for the website

Community Management (20%)

  • Ensure the Demand Action app’s community has the latest actions, updates, and priorities
  • Train volunteers and staff on how to best use the app
  • Work with digital campaigners and the Field team to ensure that volunteer sites like Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action have the most relevant actions, information, and stories so volunteers and supporters are empowered to do their work

Project Management (20%)

  • Lead and project manage development of products and content
  • Support new and ongoing campaigns
  • Work closely with the Creative team to ensure timely delivery and launch of products or content

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2+ years' of experience managing website, blog, social and/or SEO for a media organization, campaign, or nonprofit; newsroom or digital journalism experience preferred
  • Experience with WordPress or similar CMS
  • Ability to edit and write HTML in a content-entry capacity
  • An understanding of how to attract and engage a digital audience, including but not limited to, using social media, search engine, third-party aggregators, e-newsletters, events, and content partnerships
  • Experience writing, copy-editing, and proofreading in rapid response environment
  • Experience project managing and thriving in organized teams

This candidate will work with a small but mighty team that is passionate about accessibility, inclusion, and storytelling. Addressing gun violence through the work we do requires us to respond quickly to traumatic events that can be difficult to process.
