Community Engagement Manager

Position Overview

The Community Engagement Manager will work to develop and implement neighborhood stabilizing initiatives as well as strategies that increase PreventEd visibility within the community. The Community Engagement Manager should have a comfort level working with representatives from a range of backgrounds and educational levels. This position also focuses on the development and oversight of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug misuse preven­tion programs with community coalitions in the St. Louis City and St. Louis County areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Initiate opportunities and respond to requests from school and community groups by networking, developing new programs, and educating their constituencies.
• Attend meetings with various groups and act as an ambassador for PreventEd. This may include different regional initiatives, local Chamber of Commerce meetings or any public appearance that might benefit PreventEd.
• Utilize existing tools that track and measure the impact of programs for internal evaluation purposes and for reporting to the program’s primary funding sources.
• Cooperate with state agencies and regional staff, local agencies and programs, and other interested groups in developing and implementing awareness and advocacy efforts throughout the St. Louis area and the state.
• Serve as liaison to such agencies, coalitions, schools, and organizations which have an interest in prevention. Assist in networking of prevention programs to avoid duplication of efforts.  Develop resources and referral sources needed by coalitions.
• Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, and other community programs.
• Continually seek opportunities to increase visibility and knowledge of PreventEd.
• Provide technical assistance and direct support for community organizations, subcontractors and other partners to increase capacity of prevention efforts in high risk communities.
• Facilitate connection to other PreventEd staff and community partners for direct prevention activities, support such as fiscal or human resources, and other services.

• The ability to maintain effective and cooperative relationships with volunteers, clients, other staff members and other community partners.
• Ability to collaborate with various viewpoints and create a positive community coalition.
• A high degree of emotional maturity, judgment and leadership.
• Ability to pay attention to detail and manage multiple projects at one time.
• Compassionate and able to relate to clients with various needs.

• Ability to communicate professionally and build relationships with coworkers, volunteers, customers, donors, and vendors.
• Proven relationship-building skills to support collaboration and partnership activities.
• Ability to track, analyze, and adjust programs, as necessary.

• Bachelor's degree in social work, communications, marketing, public/community health, community organization, human services or related fields.
• Preferred experience of 2 to 5 years conducting outreach, community engagement, case management and or non-profit fund development.
• Strong relationships and contacts in north St. Louis county and north St. Louis City across sectors, including in religious communities, government agencies, school districts, not for profits and grassroots community groups.
• Outstanding written communication and presentation skills.
• Strong experience preparing reports.
• Some knowledge of issues related to substance misuse and the prevention programs and treatment techniques used.
• Previous training or experience in social services, minority relations, youth programs, program planning/coordination, community organization or teaching preferred.
• Proficient public speaking skills.
