Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include research, assisting with website maintenance, assisting with social media, editing/production of online videos, supporting the Press Secretary, supporting celebrity engagement for events and social and earned media)


The Communications Associate is expected to fulfill the following responsibilities for the role. As the PFAW evolves and grows, these responsibilities may change and encompass additional areas within the communications department:

  • Copy writing including assisting in the development of internal and external correspondence, press releases and social media.
  • Coordinate closely with communications staff to identify content, coordinate media outreach activities and ensure consistent messaging within PFAW and with external stakeholders.
  • Work with Communications and program staff to develop new or revise existing content for the website.
  • Regularly review and provide updates for PFAW’s website content as necessary.
  • Execute PFAW’s digital communications strategy including web and social media tools.
  • Maintain existing models and strategies while developing new and cutting-edge ideas to keep PFAW current in this changing media marketplace.
  • Engage constructively with a wide range of electronic, print and broadcast media outlets (including new and traditional media), social networking sites.
  • Research current events and trends to anticipate potential public statements.
  • Coordinate and execute special events, including site coordination, collateral development, and speaker coordination, celebrity engagement and related activities.
  • Edit and/or shoot videos for the web and social media platforms




  • Rising star within the communications field with 1- 3 years of experience in the communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing
  • Self-motivated and energetic communications professional with sophistication, intelligence, drive, and a demonstrable record of working in a communications department where social media and online engagement are top priorities
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related fields





  • Experience in content management systems and website development
  • Knowledge of publications and web/video/audio production
  • A deep commitment to PFAW’s mission
  • Edit and/or shoot videos for the web and social media platforms
  • Ability to understand PFAW’s goals, objectives and work and apply gained knowledge
  • A truly exceptional ability, interest, and facility to write in a variety of mediums from short e-mail news releases to published reports and from web features to persuasive op-eds
  • A proven track record developing and disseminating effective communications products and publications, both in print and on the web, from conception to publication
  • Proven ability to meet multiple deadlines and balance numerous projects while maintaining a perspective on long-term goals
  • Experience collaborating with a diverse and decentralized staff
  • Superior oral and written communications skills, used in one-on-one settings and in large group meetings
  • Ability to advocate and drive attention to PFAW
  • Intelligence and inspiration to anticipate, conceive, express, and create opportunities
  • Independence and self-confidence to act decisively and, at the same time, an ability to receive, integrate and translate others’ ideas and suggestions
