Scion Executive Search has been retained by Community Action Partnership of Orange County (CAP OC) to conduct an immediate search for their incoming Chief Financial Officer (CFO). CAP OC is an inspirational nonprofit organization seeking to end and prevent poverty in their community through a multitude of vitally needed services. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this full-time, onsite opportunity is for immediate hire and will be based in Garden Grove, California!

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As part of the Executive Leadership Team, the CFO will take the lead in directing the financial, IT, and facilities operations of CAP OC while also achieving the organization’s strategic initiatives. The CFO will work diligently to develop financial policies and procedures, maintain sound record-keeping, and oversee budgets, accounting, payroll, travel expenses, audits, records, and risk management. This integral role will partner closely with the CEO and work with other senior leadership on budgets and financial reporting to ensure the financial health of the organization remains strong.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets and trends to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership.
  • Produce and analyze financial reports on a monthly, quarterly and year-end basis or as requested by the CEO.
  • Provide strategic vision and financial guidance in partnership with other members of the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Manage the finance and accounting staff members in activities relating to the general ledger, payroll, cost receipts, accounts payable/receivable, audits, as well as financial, credit, and tax reports.
  • Partner with regulatory agencies and auditors for financial administration duties.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of direct reports.
  • Lead the finance team in achieving the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze contractual agreements and grant proposals.
  • Act as liaison between departments and various funding sources to ensure that procedures and controls for monitoring terms of agreement are correct and effective.
  • Attend, participate and represent CAP OC at board meetings and other events as needed.
  • Partner with the IT Manager to develop and implement processes and analyze IT infrastructure to assess operating costs and upgrade requirements.
  • Provide guidance and direction to the Facilities Manager on purchasing and procurement processes for the fiscal year, any facility projects, and vendor relations.
  • Ensure assigned staff is following CAP OC policies, procedures, and guidelines, including all safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven commitment to and passion for CAP OC’s mission.
  • Seasoned leader with 10+ years of experience in nonprofit accounting and finance leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree required; master’s degree in finance or business strongly preferred.
  • CPA license highly desired.
  • Expert in principles and practices of accounting including budgeting, auditing, purchasing, property control, financial markets, banking, and risk management.
  • Experience overseeing multi-funded organizational finances including governmental grants and grant reporting.
  • Must be analytically minded with experience evaluating financial data.
  • Skilled in examining, developing, and rebuilding financial policies and processes.
  • Familiarity with working with a Board of Directors and leading Board Committee meetings.
  • Extensive strategic, leadership, communication, and business acumen abilities.
  • Experienced in coaching and mentoring employees to create a culture of enthusiasm and commitment based upon organization’s EPIC values: Excellence, Proactiveness, Innovation, and Collaboration.
  • Expertise managing an accounting database; familiarity in Blackbaud and Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
  • Skilled in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).
  • General knowledge of IT systems, infrastructure, and business technology.
  • Outstanding internal and external customer service abilities, including easily building rapport with staff, governmental and private agencies, Board of Directors, and clients from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with inventory and property finance accounting.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

This wonderful opportunity offers the ability to make significant impact as an executive leader at Community Action Partnership of Orange County (CAP OC). In addition to a competitive base salary in the range of $155,000 to $200,000 DOE, CAP OC also provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical and dental insurance for employees with plan options as low as $0 premiums! CAP OC also provides access to vision and life insurance as well as Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). In addition, CAP OC offers 403(b) accounts to employees, to which the organization contributes 6% of the employee’s gross bi-weekly wages!
