The National Ability Center (NAC) empowers individuals of all abilities by building self-esteem, confidence and lifetime skills through sport, recreation, and educational programs. As a leader in adaptive recreation and outdoor adventures, we rally around the belief that our differences make us stronger, and that recreating together can change our world. By including family and friends in programming, we strive to reinforce relationships and build support systems that extend beyond the initial program experience. Our NAC family draws from decades of experience working with people of all abilities, harnessing the power of specialized equipment, techniques, teaching methods, a passionate team of full-time staff, seasonal instructors and over 1,900 volunteers.  Locations include Park City, Salt Lake City and Moab.

Position Overview

The CEO of the National Ability Center is a dynamic leader who thrives on making a difference in the community and society through the realization of the vision and mission of the NAC.  This professional must be extremely well-spoken and externally focused on relationships with key current and prospective stakeholders and the communities we serve, including major donor cultivation resulting in expanded access and visibility of NAC.  The ability to develop, enhance and expand partnerships is a critical expectation of this position. The CEO is capable of being a thought leader in the adaptive recreation industry, is dedicated to understanding people of all abilities, and is passionate about ensuring accessibility for all.  In addition to 70 percent of this position being externally focused, leading as the culture ambassador for the NAC’s core values represents the style of leadership required for the role. The position is responsible for effectively collaborating and working with the board and staff, ensuring the strategic plan is developed, implemented and executed, and is responsible for successful operations including: programs, P/L, development/fundraising, public relations/marketing, and human resources.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the strategic plan in coordination with the executive leadership team and Board of Director.
  • Manage, monitor, and guide execution of the plan, making sure both long and short-term objectives are realized.
  • Proactively identify and address opportunities, risks, and challenges for the organization while unifying the team around common objectives.
  • As an advocate for awareness, education, and support for those with a disability, the CEO initiates, develops, cultivates, and expands community partnerships and government relations with a variety of constituents both locally and nationally.
  • Ensure organizational culture, core values, and a stellar reputation are maintained and strengthened internally and externally.
  • Provide oversight, direction, and support for revenue generation, capital campaigns, grants, and fundraising/development to support an operating budget of $7 million or more.
  • Initiate, develop, enhance, and advance major donor relationships.
  • Monitor program strategy to ensure quality, including oversight for the development of program goals, objectives, and policies.
  • Provide oversight, direction, and support for public relations and the marketing strategy.
  • Evolve as a thought leader in the adaptive recreation industry by increasing visibility through interviews/speeches/presentations both locally and nationally.
  • Oversee preparation and management of budget and maintain fiscal viability for the organization.
  • Responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources, including policies, procedures, benefits, regulations, training, and development.
  • Ensure thriving overall operations of the organization, including but not limited to: facilities, customer service, processes/procedures, and technology.
  • Effectively and regularly communicate with employees, volunteers, and participants, collaborating and incorporating feedback whenever feasible.
  • Provide support, leadership, and offer resources for professional development to the executive team.
  • Collaborate, educate, and update the board of directors regarding strategy, vision, and the direction of organization.
  • Maintain compliance with all non-profit organization rules and regulations.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in management performance including personnel supervision, program planning, and financial management, preferably with a non-profit organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated success in fundraising/capital campaigns.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment where diversity is encouraged and embraced.
  • Expertise building and mentoring high performance, mission-driven, and results-oriented teams.
  • Must be available to work evening, weekend and holidays as needed
  • Knowledge and experience working with persons with disabilities is preferred.
  • Experience in outdoor recreation, personally or professionally in a variety of programs the NAC delivers.
  • Willing to participate in relevant community and national events
  • Affiliations and connections with a variety of professional organizations are beneficial.
