BACKGROUND

2Life Communities provides superior affordable rental housing to older adults of all backgrounds who can thrive independently within a supportive environment. We are a mission-driven organization promoting opportunities for all older adults to age in community – to live a full life of connection and purpose in a dynamic and supportive environment. We are continually evolving support services and programming to meet the needs of our diverse population of residents as they age.  We offer case management, service coordination, and a wide array of wellness, cultural and other activities.  We partner with health care providers to identify innovative ways to support our residents' health and well-being, and we engage with the broader community through our Village Center program.

 

2Life owns and operates over 1,300 units of affordable rental housing located within six campuses in metropolitan Boston.  With another 210 apartments under construction and more in planning, we expect to add another 600-700 units within the next several years as we complete projects in active planning and construction phases.  We continue to pursue other development opportunities. We anticipate continued growth in the size of our portfolio, the geography in which we operate, and the diversity of our residents in terms of race, ethnicity, income levels, and need for supportive services.  To accommodate these exciting changes, 2Life desires to elevate the leadership of our resident life initiatives to the new position of Chief of Community Life.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Chief of Community Life (CCL) is an exciting and significant new position for 2Life, made possible and appropriate by a considerable level of growth the organization is experiencing.  The CCL is a member of 2Life's Senior Leadership Team, reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer and working collaboratively with other members of the Leadership Team, especially and including the Chief of Property Management (another new position).

The CCL directly oversees a team of professionals who provide programs at all our sites, create opportunities for assessing and managing needs for supportive services, generate new programs, and have dotted line oversight of our resident services and community activity teams at all sites.  The team focuses on two distinct but related goals: supporting each resident to thrive and find their place in community and building and nurturing community life at all campuses.  The team currently consists of staff organizing and carrying out agency-wide resident group activities such as fitness/wellness and intergenerational programs, volunteer recruitment and coordination, and providing clinical support to resident service coordinators located at each campus and reporting to on-site property managers.

The CCL will provide visionary leadership to an existing team of excellent resident services professionals.  They will galvanize and deploy the internal resources and develop and nurture the external relationships necessary to evolve and execute a model community engagement and resident services strategy that sustains and grows 2Life's vision for promoting aging in community.  The CCL is a unifier, building a community of practice at all sites.  They are an expediter, creating systems to deliver standardized, efficient, effective, and appropriately deployed and balanced across all sites.  The CCL is an innovator, identifying new needs and approaches and exploring and establishing new partnerships.  They are a communicator, serving as a liaison to key members of the Board of Directors, and acting as an important public face of 2Life, especially to our external partners.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*

  • Unify the on-site service and central service teams to create a well-integrated, focused approach to programs and services at 2Life. Define essential and desirable services to create clarity about priorities throughout the portfolio, and recognize the unique nature of each campus.  Direct a team of specialists in fitness/wellness, intergenerational programs, memory loss programming, and creative arts therapies, and clinical supports to on-site resident service coordinators and property management staff—as well as supporting and coordinating the work of on-site teams for music/arts/culture, lifelong learning, and cultural celebrations.
  • Develop and implement a consistent, innovative resident services community of practice involving collaborations among centralized service staff, on-site resident services coordinators, and on-site programs staff (music/arts/culture, lifelong learning). In addition, work closely with the Chief of Property Management to coordinate efforts with site property managers.
  • Provide strategic vision and goals and develop the budget and operating plan for a unified, centralized, site-based resident services program
  • Establish open and effective communication channels and outward-facing programming between 2Life's campuses and the surrounding communities to build the Village Center model, and grow and nurture our external partnerships with such agencies acting as aging services access points (ASAP), adult day health programs, PACE programs, home health and similar agencies that provide long term supportive services, health insurance providers and others.
  • Research and implement innovative approaches for developing culturally sensitive and results-driven strategies for long-term supportive services, outreach, communication, training, and management practices designed to meet the diverse needs of 2Life residents
  • Support the Fund Development Departments in obtaining philanthropic funds to sustain our programs, work closely with and manage contracts with community partners and develop a comprehensive system of key performance indicators for data tracking and measuring impact that guides policy and practices
  • Work collaboratively with the Real Estate Development, Accounting, Property Management, and other departments to support a multidisciplinary affordable housing practice that supports aging in community
  • Staff the board's resident services committee in a way that engages their talents and wisdom and provides oversight of and advocacy for our programs and services

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Evidence of ability to be a unifier, delivery systems expediter, innovator, collaborator, and effective communicator
  • 7-10 years of management or equivalent experience, including unifying, motivating, developing, and influencing a diverse population of internal staff and external partners
  • Bachelor's degree in social services, public administration, education, or related field is required together with experience in designing and administering programs and supports for elders, including frail elders. Master's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial management and budgeting, including grants administration
  • Demonstrated understanding of assessment and evaluation tools and techniques and quantitative and qualitative data analysis capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, the ability to work with people at all levels and diverse cultural backgrounds, as well as key external organizations, family members, guardians, and the community at large
  • Experience in policy development and leadership and management skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and Google WorkSpace required
  • Experience with Salesforce and RealPage preferred

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

The CCL directly supervises a staff of 7-10 professionals and has indirect oversight of on-site resident services and group services coordinators at all sites
