Function:
Under the supervision of the Manager NHBS Field Operations (Prevention Manager) conduct behavioral interviews in English with people at risk for HIV infection or transmission. This is a Monday-Friday daytime position in the Boston area and part of a national project of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is a 24 week temporary (June through December 2019), non-benefits eligible position.

Representative Duties:

  1. Learn study protocol.
  2. Conduct in-depth screening and structured interviews with survey respondents, using hand-held computers.
  3. Participate in HIV testing and counseling training.
  4. Conduct HIV testing and counseling with survey respondents.
  5. Communicate clearly during face-to-face interviews.
  6. Effectively discuss participants’ sexual behavior histories and drug use.
  7. Provide participants with referrals for medical and social services as needed.
  8. Maintain meticulous records to assist in compilation of data for written reports.
  9. Meet with Field Supervisor and team on a regular basis to resolve issues and assist with other program development/implementation needs.
  10. Meet agency participatory expectations
    • Adhere to all agency and departmental policies and procedures
    • Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities as requested
    • Adhere to the highest principles of client confidentiality
    • Adhere to established safety policies, procedures and precautions; enforce agency’s policies and clinical procedures, including safety and crisis procedures.
    • Attend all required meetings, in-services and professional trainings
    • Maintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activities
  11. Perform related duties and projects as assigned

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of HIV and AIDS essential.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or 2 years’ experience working with populations at increased risk for HIV.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and responsible self-starter.
  • Experience conducting face-to-face interviews.
  • Excellent verbal communication and people skills.
  • Experience and comfort with members of various sexual communities and communities of color.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-cultural environments.
  • Familiarity with computers a plus.
