Description

The Oregon State University (OSU) Foundation supports the fundraising and engagement efforts of OSU student-athletes through Our Beaver Nation (OBN), the fundraising arm of Oregon State Athletics. OBN’s goal is to support the OSU Athletics Build the Dam Strategic Plan and the effort to lead the nation in the holistic development of our student-athletes measured by graduation, academic achievement, wellness, and post-graduation success.

The successful candidate will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the first day of employment

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development / Associate Athletic Director & Executive Director of Major Gifts the Associate Director of Development is part of a cohort of assistant and associate directors of development officers who support the pipeline development and fundraising goals of the OSU Foundation on behalf of Oregon State University.

While securing major gift commitments for current priorities is critically important, it is equally important that the Associate Director of Development qualify a large number of potential donors for the unit, leveraging processes and technology that allows them to create and maintain mid-level annual gift relationships at scale and grow the pool of major gift donors for this campaign and the next.

The Associate Director of Development will be expected to devote 80% of work time to fundraising activities and 20% of work time to administrative responsibilities.

Work Location

The location for this position is Gill Coliseum on the Oregon State University campus.

The Foundation offers a program called Core Work Days, a hybrid approach combining remote and in-office work days. Unless traveling for work, Foundation employees are in office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and work remotely, if preferred, on Monday and Friday

Key Partners 

Partners for this position include the Foundation’s leadership annual giving team, major gift officers, planned giving, marketing/communications, gift accounting and finance teams, along with College’s external relations team.

Measures of Success

  • Participate in the ADOD cohort and ensure qualification of 150 potential donors
  • Secure 15 – 30 mid-level annual gifts (between $2,500 and $49,999).
  • Raise between $500,000 - $1M annually through a combination of mid-level annual gifts ($2,500 - $49,999) and major gifts ($50,000+).

 Major Duties 

Working closely with assigned foundation and academic leadership to advance the philanthropic priorities of the college.

Manage a comprehensive portfolio of 200 – 250 potential donors:

  • Participate in cohort activities to connect with and qualify 150potential donors through leveraging innovative engagement platforms and processes on an annual basis
  • In addition, manage a portfolio of 50-100donors and potential donors rated at $25,000 and above to reach assigned fundraising goals

Raise $500,000 - $1M dollars per year, as measured by commitments of mid-level ($2,500 - $49,999) and major gifts ($50,000+).

Open 20 - 50 ($2,500 – $49.9K) proposals per year.

Close 15 – 30 gifts ($2,500 - $49,999) per year, 2-5 ($50K+).

Conduct 120-160 visits and substantive contacts per year, focused on assigned portfolio and the engagement, cultivation, and solicitation of potential donors.

Collaborate with college/university external relations colleagues to broaden and deepen the engagement of alumni, parents, and friends.

Conduct 3-5 visits per travel day.

Perform related administrative duties, including contact reports, budget management, coordinating engagement activities, and setting up donor visits.

Along with Our Beaver Nation colleagues and university partners, support the Oregon State Athletics Sports Specific & Engagement Plan, which will include a sport liaison assignment(s).

Participate in the Our Beaver Nation regional development plan, including travel to assigned areas.

  • Experience in donor cultivation and engagement
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to articulate a strong and compelling case for support
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to create strong professional relationships with colleagues at the Foundation, OSU Alumni Association, Our Beaver Nation and the university
  • Be aware of, control, and express one's emotions appropriately, and to handle interpersonal relationships maturely, thoughtfully and empathetically, including the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to effectively represent the interests and fundraising priorities of various colleges/units, while also maintaining a high degree of enterprise perspective by acting in the best interests of the foundation and the university at all times
  • Strategic, hardworking, and able to work with a high degree of flexibility in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, goal-oriented environment
  • Ability to apply creative and entrepreneurial thinking, while applying sound judgment and conducting oneself with integrity

Qualifications and Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and four years of development work experience, ideally in higher education.  Education and experience equivalencies may be considered.  Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate successful middle-to-major gift fundraising experience. The person in this position will frequently travel between Corvallis and Portland, Oregon so they must possess a valid driver’s license and must be able to travel by varying modes of transportation.
