The Virginia Education Association (VEA) is seeking applicants for the position of Accountant. VEA is a statewide community of almost 40,000 teachers and school support professionals working for the betterment of public education in the Commonwealth. Position Description:
Primary responsibilities include processing dues and maintaining accounts receivable for dues, maintaining and entering transactions into VEA’s membership database, processing accounts payable and employee expense and credit card vouchers, prepare invoices for invoice and maintain subledger of miscellaneous accounts receivable, processing non-dues cash receipts, and backup for processing of payroll.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree desired in accounting or equivalent in education and experience.
- Excellent computer skills including MS Outlook, PeopleSoft, Blackbaud and QuickBooks or equivalent accounting software. Experience with ADP Workforce Now a plus.
- Experience with web-based banking, membership, and benefits administration software
Core Job Functions:
- Ensure membership dues statements are mailed monthl
- Enter and post payments into IMS database reconcile with bank deposits to ensure accuracy.
- Handle questions from locals concerning dues balance
- Balance outstanding dues and other ARs to General Ledger.
- Process and post student credit card due payments into IM
- Apply local refund amounts to obligations due to VEA (process refunds for SVEA).
- Accounts Payable-prepare/code vouchers and process checks weekly. Process positive pay and ACH through Truist program.
- Maintain files.
- Process 1099’s January, maintain 1099 binder.
- Process Basic membership grants in August.
- Process District Appropriations in September.
- Process Uniserv Appropriations in November.
- Process Bank of America checks monthly.
- Download bank statement and reconcile A/P checks monthly.
- Process board advances prior to VEA and NEA Conventions.
- Maintain check register binder.
- Deposit entry-code/record daily deposits in accounting system, maintain monthly schedules, maintain binders.
- Prepare outstanding check letters.
- Prepare sales and use tax reports monthly.
- Log in, record and process visa reconciliations and prepare outstanding visa. report monthly.
- Enter monthly journal entries - AR and advertising, visa, actual journal postage
- Prepare monthly invoices in Quickbooks for retiree insurance, advertising and any other invoices.
- Balance staff AR, Advertising AR, Outside AR, Outstanding credit cards and Outstanding liability monthly to subledger.
- Log in and record auto voucher information on spreadsheet and process information for end of year payroll taxes.
- Prepare items for annual audit.
- Count petty cash monthly.
Salary and Benefits:
This is a bargaining unit position. Salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications with a hiring range of $40,625 - $65,885. The position also includes an excellent fringe benefit package.
