Job Description

CCA YMCA is looking for a year-round, full-time Day Camp Director. This position will be an exempt, salaried position. The CCA YMCA has three Day Camp locations including the 70-acre beautiful Camp Merrywood that has a lake and great outdoor activities. The CCA YMCA is located in South Jersey which is 35 minutes from the Shore areas, home of multiple wildlife preserves, and opportunities for great outdoor recreation such as biking and hiking. This position has the unique opportunity to grow the program and help it meet its 3 year strategic and operational goals.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides leadership for the summer camp programs and staff while working year round to help the department meets the goals as it relates to Summer Camp. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience. 

Qualifications
  1. Minimum of a Bachelors Degree and nine credits in early childhood education and/or child development and three years of experience or six credits in early childhood education and/or child development and four years of experience.
  2. Previous experience of at least 2 prior seasons (years) working as either a Supervisor and/or Administrator in the camp setting as required by the American Camp Association
  3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc
  4. At least 25 years of age as required by the American Camp Association
  5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  6. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
Essential Functions
  1. Expands the camp program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans
  2. Meets performance goals as it relates to the strategic and operating plans
  3. Maintains open, positive communication and interactions between the camps, campers, parents/caregivers, camp staff, and other departmental staff.
  4. Ensures that activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values
  5. Oversees all operations of the day camp sites and travels to sites as needed
  6. Empowers and motivates staff in providing a compliant, safe and quality camp program
  7. Ensures that camp program meets or exceeds all ACA standards including safety and cleanliness standards
  8. Works collaboratively with other administration to train staff, supervise camp, address concerns and facilitate meetings
  9. Ensures timely submission of assigned deliverables for marketing
  10. Ensures that all incident reports are given to the appropriate parties (i.e. parents, Senior Director, Human Resources) in a timely manner and the appropriate parties are notified of issues and concerns
  11. Ensures the timely collection of fees and swipes for Third Party participants while working in conjunction with the Registrar and Financial Services Coordinator
  12. Attends Association staff meetings
  13. Updates the ACA portal to ensure compliance with ACA guidelines
  14. Meets the Professional Development requirements of the American Camp Association
  15. Professional development of Counselors
  16. Development, monitoring and accountability of camp budget
  17. Enforces YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
  18. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions
  19. Performs other duties as assigned
